"Which one do you want?"
"You don't need to get me more, Dev," Rose said, "I already have plenty of plushies you won for me at my house."
"But..." Devon frowned, "I want to get you more and more."
"It's okay, Dev." Rose smiled.
The first day of the sports week was done. Both Rose and Devon are now on the arcade, their usual after-school spot.
"We won today, just give me a chance please," Devon insisted.
Zevrille won first place in boys volleyball, basketball, track, and archery on the first day. It was just the first out of 7 days, there are a lot more participants on different days.
"Alright, but I'm going to let you keep it first. Is that okay?" Rose asked.
Devon nodded, "Which one?"
"That one," Rose pointed to the panda holding a bamboo. It was another keychain.
"Okay!" Devon smiled, immediately rushing to the claw machine. He then got the keychain Rose wanted, putting it on his backpack.
"Come to think of it, this panda looks exactly like you." Devon laughed.
"What do you mean?" Rose asked, looking at the panda keychain.
"Hm..." Devon put the keychain up and compared it with Rose's face,
"It's frowning here," Devon laughed.Rose frowned more, "Shut up," He ends up laughing after.
"See!"
-
"Good luck, Rain. You got this."
"Thank you, Ambrose!" Rain smiled cheerily.
"Good luck," Devon cheered as well.
"Thank you, Devon," Rain also thanked him.
Both Devon and Rose had noticed Rain's changed in the past few days. It was because suddenly didn't get excited whenever Devon would talk to him. Rose suspected that it has something to do with Dalziel, his boyfriend.
Rose and Devon waved and watched Rain approach the track field. It was the day of his game.
"Go Rain!" Devon cheered.
"Who are you cheering on?" Suddenly, Dalziel was in front of both Devon and Rose.
"We were cheering for Rain as friends, Dalziel," Rose spoke.
"Yeah, would you like to join us?" Devon asked, smiling.
"No, I asked because you're calling my boyfriend's name." He spitted.
"Excuse me? We're his friends, we have the right to cheer for him." Rose sneered.
"You piss me off." Dalziel clutched his hand.
"Well, it's not my fault you're getting pissed off." Rose crossed his hands.
"You-" Dalziel raised his hand.
"Hey," Devon stopped his hand, "What do you think you're doing?"
"Hey, the guy tripped!"
Everyone's attention was on the track field. Rose immediately rushed in front when he saw Rain, lying on the ground.
"Rain!" Rose went past the fence, he knew he was going to get in trouble soon but he didn't care. He speeded past the other people who rushed to help.
"Hey, Rain!" Rose knelt and lifted Rain's head, "He's passed out, hurry and call some help!" Rose shouted.
Before Rose could carry Rain himself, Devon helped carry Rain, "It's okay, Rose. He'll be okay."
Rose swallowed back his tears. Rain come on. You'll get in trouble with your mom.
Rose nodded, following Devon who was running. Then, Dalziel blocker their way.
"Help is on the way, calm down," He said.
"Help? Help that takes long!" Rose panicked.
"Calm down," Dalziel massaged his temples, "I called the hospital, my parents own it so you won't have to worry." Dalziel looked at them calmly.
Rose breathed heavily, calming himself, "This..."
"We'll wait, make sure it comes in a bit," Devon said, still carrying Rain.
Dalziel nods.
After a few minutes, help arrived and they were able to bring Rain to the hospital.
"He sprained his ankle because of the fall. We found out he had a mild concussion even before the accident. He's stable right now, so you don't have to worry." The doctor said.
"Thank you, Doctor," Devon thanks him.
"You're welcome, I'll be leaving now." He bows down and leaves the room.
Rose was worried, what could've made him trip?
Rose sighs, holding Rain's hand tighter. Rain was like a family to him. When he can't even open up to his mom, he had Rain.
"You can leave now," Dalziel said in a bitter tone.
"You were the reason," Rose stood up and confronted Dalziel, "You mad him like this." He pushed Dalziel.
Dalziel scoffs, "Really? How did you know?" He said sarcastically, "Crazy, why would I be the reason?"
"This," Rose raised Rain's shirt and there was a visible bruise on his stomach, "Care to explain this?"
"Why would I do that?" Dalziel was mad.
"This," Rose lifted Rain's sleeve and there was another bruise on his arm, "Now tell me you didn't do it." He faced him.
"You crazy annoying bitch," Dalziel muttered.
"What? You made him that state when he was about to play something he does enjoy. Funny, the doctor said the concussion occurred even before the accident." Rose laughed sarcastically.
"Fix yourself even before making us leave," Rose pushed him with a finger again.
"You-"
Before Dalziel could hit him, he slapped him hard on the face.
"Don't even touch me with that hand of yours," Rose said, furious.
Police then entered the door, immediately rushing to Dalziel.
"What the fuck is this? You don't even have proof!"
"Sadly, I've got here evidence I'd already shown the station. It was hard pretending not to know. Rain sent me a voice message of the day you did this to him."
When the police took Dalziel out, Devon put his hand on Rose's shoulder, calming him down. Rose then turned to him and his tears started to fall.
"You're holding them back, I knew it." Devon sighs and hugs Rose, "I'm not going to tell you that it's okay, because it's not. I'm just telling you that it'll be okay soon because things come and go. So rest first, Rose."
