"Mom, pleaaase.. Can we go to the vending machine?" Amelia begged

Carolyn gave in at the begging eyes of her daughter. She lifted Meredith up in her arms and the three of them went to the vending machine to choose a treat

"I want these!" Amelia shouted and pointed at a blue bag of M&M

"What do you want Meredith?" Carolyn asked but Meredith was still looking at the food

"T-this" She whispered and placed her finger on a small waffle

Caroly smiled. They had done everything to let Meredith eat as much as she wanted and could.

The three of them were back on their way to Meredith's room when another kid on the pedward stared at Meredith's head and pointed it out to his mom

Carolyn held Meredith tight in her arms and continued their way back to Meredith's room

Carolyn placed Meredith down and handed her the waffle but the little girl didn't start eating. She just went to lay down and closed her eyes

"Mer, do you want one of mine?" Amelia asked but Meredith shook her head

"Are you feeling okay Meredith?" Carolyn asked and Meredith nodded in response

"Do you wanna play?" Amelia asked as she finished the bag of sweets

Meredith shrugged but pushed herself up before clutching her head in her hands

Carolyn pushed back the tears that were pooling in her eyes as she saw the little girl in a lot of pain

Meredith started gagging again so Carolyn quickly walked over with a bucket and let Meredith vomit into it

"Hi, Meredith. We're here for rounds" Arizona announced as she entered Meredith's room "Robert, you present"

"Meredith Grey, 6 years old. Receives chemo once a week. Diagnosed with a brain tumor which has spread to her spine. No strength and barely any feeling in her legs"

Meredith looked away. She knew what was wrong with her but hated the fact they had to repeat it over and over again

"We're gonna take her up to radiation in a bit" She heard a doctor say and started to panic

"N-No!" She yelled as she looked into Carolyn's eyes

"You're almost finished, Meredith. Almost.." Carolyn whispered

Amelia seemed scared and angry at the same time. She couldn't understand why this was happening to her friend

"P-Pl-Please" Meredith begged

"I'm sorry, Meredith. We need to do this to make you better" Arizona said as she took a seat on Meredith's bed and squeezed the little girl's hand

Time went by and they brought a scared Meredith to radiology for radiation therapy

"Amy and I will wait for you in your room, okay sweetie?" Carolyn asked

Meredith nodded and kept quiet. She was scared for what was about to happen in a couple of minutes

...

Carolyn and Amelia were waiting in Meredith's room. Amelia was asleep

"Carolyn" Christopher burst into the room

"What happened?" Carolyn gasped

"We have to take her into surgery. She wasn't responding so we took her for new scans.. It's so big. If we don't take it out now.. it's over"

"Oh my-" Carolyn muttered

"I have to go now. I have to assist during the surgery, I'll ask someone to update you over the phone. Go home, be with the kids. Love you" Christopher said and quickly kissed her before running off

Christopher ran to the OR and started scrubbing in

"Dr Shepherd, are you ready for this?" Dr Nelson asked

"I am" He confirmed and looked at his colleague on his other side, the young and bonde Dr Robbins

"We need to save her. She's 6" Arizona said

The doctors entered the OR and started taking their places

"If I can take away the one in her brain, then I wanna try take away the mets in her spine" Nelson said

"So she could be cancer free?" Arizona checked

"Not completely. I would still wanna see scans if there are any other mets and I would go for 2-3 other chemo sessions before she could start remission.. but I think this is her best shot" Christopher assured

"Let's do this" Arizona smiled

...

"Carolyn.." Christopher sighed as he went to go update his wife but broke down in sobs on her shoulder

"What happened?" She started to freak out

"Nelson.. He- he doesn't know if he nicked something by accident. We'll have to wait until she wakes up. Carolyn, I can't do this again. I can't cut in my daughter's best friend, the little girl I see as one of my own" He tightened the grip on Carolyn

"It might be over. The surgery is over, now we can only wait"

"Daddy!" Amelia ran in "How's Meredith?" She asked

"Surgery went well, sweetheart. Dr Arizona is now watching her and taking her for scans while daddy rests at home" Carolyn told her daughter

"Kay. Thanks daddy for helping Meredith" Amelia said and quickly hugged her father before running off back to her

"Come on, go to bed" Carolyn led her husband towards their room as he was really unfocused

Carolyn helped to change her husband into his pajamas and tucked him in. She stayed with him until he was fast asleep and then went to check on the kids

"Is it true? Did Meredith's surgery go okay?" Kathleen asked

"It's true. We'll have to wait and too how long it takes for her to wake up after such an intense surgery but she should be okay"
