As we entered Fort Worth, God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton came on the radio. Before I could change it, my mind drifted back to earlier that fall.

"You dropped something!" A guy ran out after us. I turned around as he handed me my wallet and smiled.

"Thanks." I said, smiling at him.

He was really cute.

"No problem, definitely worth getting to talk to a cute girl." He said with a wink.

I've been a walking heartache

I've made a mess of me

The person that I've been lately

Ain't who I wanna be But you stay here right beside me

Watch as the storm blows through

And I need you

"You're Britt Manning?" He asked, his face full of shock.

"Uh yes?" I said, laughing.

"What?" I asked as he continued to stare at me in shock.

"You're not what I expected." He said, his expression becoming amused.

"What were you expecting?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest.

"Well, I certainly didn't expect curls." He said with the same stupid smile on his face.

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs

God gave me you for the days of doubt

For when I think I've lost my way

There are no words here left to say, it's true

God gave me you

"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked.

"Well, let's see. After 12 years of proving myself to anyone who has ever doubted me, a group of assholes - yes I said assholes - decide that means absolutely nothing. Now I have a god damn investigation going on before the biggest game of my life. And during all of this, I am becoming friends with the worst possible person because, as it turns out, he is the freaking captain of the group of assholes." I said, completely losing control of the tears streaming down my face.

"Anything else?" He asked, reaching out to wipe a stray tear.

"I just called you captain of the assholes." I said and we both laughed.

"I deserve it." He said with a sad smile.

There's more here than what we're seeing

A divine conspiracy

That you, an angel lovely

Could somehow fall for me

You'll always be love's great martyr

I'll be the flattered fool

And I need you

"Well, I should go." He said, putting his hands in his pockets, rocking back on his heels.

"Yup, you should." I could see Brady sitting patiently at my window.

"My dog is watching us." I laughed.

He took a step closer and reached over to push a strand of hair out of my eyes.

"Remember what I said in LSU?" He asked and I smiled up at him.
