"How are you feeling?" Nick's mom asked, walking in and wrapping her arms around me like she had known me for years.
"A little sore." I smiled at her and she laughed.
"Alot sore." Nick corrected and I rolled my eyes.
"Well I hope my son has been helpful." She said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"He has." My mom assured her.
"That was quite the game." Nick's father said, sitting on the couch.
"Yeah, it was a great game." I said, smiling. Despite how it ended, it was a really great game. If my injury hadn't taken the headlines, it would have been one of the closest state championships in quite a while.
Before she could respond, Brady trotted into the room and placed his head on her knee.
"And who's this?" She asked, scratching him behind his ears.
"This is Brady. Who has to be on his best behavior." My mom said with a warning look to the dog.
"He's such a gentleman." Nick's mom said.
"Well I did bring dinner." She said, looking up at me and my mom.
"You didn't have to do that." My mom said with a smile of gratitude.
"Well I know if this happened to Nick I wouldn't be thinking of cooking." She said.
It was true, my house has been all upside down and inside out since last night.
I mean my mom and dad let Nick sleep over... on the same couch as me.
"I brought taco casserole..." Nick's mom said, her voice trailing off as she led my mom into the kitchen.
"I hope you're hungry. It was a big casserole." Nick said with a laugh.
"You're not leaving, right?" I asked. I felt like a baby and I knew I was pushing my luck with my parents letting him stay.
"I need to go home and get my car, then I will come back. If its okay with your parents." He added, giving me a serious look. From day one Nick has been set on being a gentlemen and respecting my parents. Except the time he climbed into my room but that was a tense situation.
After dinner, I was exhausted. We had family and friends coming in and out all day and it was tiring to get around the house.
However when I saw Nick's parents packing up to leave I glanced quickly from my mom to my dad.
"Nick, would you like to stay the night again?" My father asked.
"You have been a great help and I can tell Britt would like you to stay." My mom said with a chuckle.
Like I said, the house has been turned around. I only wish I was able to enjoy this lengthened leash instead of being stuck on the couch hopped up on pain medications.
That night, Nick and I were laying on the couch with Cole and Ashley when Nick's phone rang.
"I gotta take this." He muttered, his face turning serious as he stepped out the front door.
"What was that all about?" I asked, trying to push myself up to see him.
"Not sure." Cole shrugged.
Outside, Nick was pacing in the walkway leading up to the house.
"Nick..." His coach said.
"I know they did it." He repeated, feeling the anger bubble up in his chest.
