Present-day

"Daddy, come play with me!" Myah called her father. He was busy talking with some of the wolves who watched the pack border. Not getting her father's attention, she decided to go play by herself. She wandered around the pack territory flying her remote control airplane. It got stuck into a tree and Myah decided to climb the tree instead of bothering her father. She almost got her airplane down when she slipped and fell to the floor screaming at the top of her lungs. She hit the floor hard, breaking her left arm. "Daddy!" She yelled tears streaming down her face. August was by her side in seconds.

"What happened?" He asked her, pulling her into his arms.

"I wanted to get the airplane from the tree and I fell. It really hurts." She said, holding her arm close to her.

"Okay, let's go get this fixed okay. It's okay." He picked her up and took her to the doctor explaining what happened. After an x-ray and a cast, Myah slept peacefully in her bed. August sat by her bedside watching her sleep.

"How is she?" Margot asked, standing by the doorstep.

"The doctor gave her something for the pain, she should be alright. I should have been paying attention to her. If I had she wouldn't be hurt right now." he blamed himself.

"She's a kid Aug, they tend to get themselves into situations where they get hurt. I mean the kid thought she could use a blanket as a parachute and jumped off the stairs. She nearly broke her neck. You can't blame yourself for every little injury she gets. She also kinda has to learn a little lesson. I'm pretty sure she learned to not climb trees without supervision nor use a blanket as a parachute. Just relax. You are doing just fine." She reassured him.

"How was the Red Moon Pack?" He asked her.

"Annoying as they always are, but nothing I couldn't handle. The alliance is set, all you have to do is meet with the alpha and sign the treaty. Did you cook anything?" She asked to walk to the kitchen.

"Your hunger never seems to amaze me. I made mac and cheese." He said the following behind her.

"Do you think you could make me a steak instead? Or some ribs?"

"No, I don't think I could. Do you realize that I'd have to marinate those before cooking?"

"Okay, how about a burger? mac and cheese is good, but I don't want it. Oh, how about a turkey sub?"She said.

"Always hungry. I'm way ahead of you. Here, I had a feeling you wouldn't want mac and cheese." He took out a plate of cheeseburgers from the oven.

"Oh, I love you! " She said, giving him a bear hug. They sat in the kitchen and ate the burgers. "So, you and Julie? How's that going?"

"Oh you know the usual, she found her mate and left," August replied.

"Wait really? Wow, how is everyone but us finding their mate?"

"Patience is key. As my mother says. They will show up eventually. I think."

"I mean I don't care, but it would be nice to find them before I turn thirty you know. After that, it's pointless to think about finding them. " Margot rambled.

" I just hope you get a mate who can feed your appetite."August joked.

"You and I both, because I am not easily satisfied by just one plate of food. Make me a sandwich?" He rolled his eyes and started making her a sandwich. They heard small footsteps coming down the stairs. Myah walked into the kitchen rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

"Hey sweet girl, come to join the feast?" Margot asked. Myah's stomach grumbled on command. She sat at the counter next to Margot as her father made the sandwiches

"How are you feeling kiddo?" August asked.

"It only hurts a little."She replied. "Can you put bacon on my sandwich? Oh and no mayo put ranch instead."

"Did you just say to put ranch on a sandwich?"

"Yeah, it tastes good. Oh and some ketchup too daddy." Myah added. Margot held her chest faking pain.

"Oh, my heart. How could she do this to me? Ketchup and ranch on a turkey sandwich, you are just like your dad, he eats spaghetti with ranch which I think is absolutely disgusting." Margot jokes. August placed their sandwiches down and was about to sit when he was mind-linked by one of his border patrol wolves.

"I have to go check something out, stay here. I'll be back." He said. He gave Myah a small kiss on the forehead and left.

"Sorry to bother you sir, but we thought we should bring this to your attention. She crossed onto our territory and put up a pretty good fight, but she was severely injured. She needs immediate medical attention, we also need to get in contact with The Order, she's one of theirs."

August watched as they brought the girl from the woods, immediately, he felt a connection to her, like he needed to be close to her. Before he could think, the words left his mouth, "Mine"

This mysterious girl was his mate.
