Shinso had been attending UA for two weeks now. And everyday he found himself subconsciously looking for the girl named Tori. He wasn't really sure why. Maybe it was how flighty and whimsical she was. Maybe it was because she helped him out, despite being the cause of his coffee fiasco. Maybe it was his curiosity about why Eraser Head addressed the girl by first name.
Shinso wanted to just give up. He didn't have a proper reason for looking for her anyways, and he didn't know what class she was in or even her last name, so why did he even bother?
Shinso didn't notice that on his way out of school, he had been walking straight into someone.
"Oh hey, it's you! At least you weren't holding coffee." A familiar, airy and sweet voice joked.
Shinso's eyes snapped up to see the blue haired girl. Her bright smile ever present on her face.
"Hey you okay?" She asked.
Shinso snapped out of his daze. "Yeah, next time I'll make sure I'm holding coffee next time you're running about."
"Ooo out for revenge, I see?" Tori asked, laughing.
Shinso glared at her. "What are you, five?"
"I've been told so, yes." She said thoughtfully. "So where are you headed to...?"
The boy sighed. "Shinso Hitoshi."
"Shinso." Tori said, the name rolling off of her tongue with her signature smile.
Shinso blinked at her.
"Oh! Yeah, I'm Kazama Tori. Nice to meet you, for the second time!"
"Same, I guess. And I'm heading home, obviously." Shinso began to walk away, and rolled his eyes when he saw the girl was following.
"Why are you following me?" He asked.
"Oh, sorry, kinda just started following on instinct." She said, slightly sheepishly as her cheeks grew red.
"You have no idea how to get to your house do you?" Shinso asked flatly.
"Eh? How'd you guess?" She asked.
"You don't seem like you'd be good with directions."
Tori puffed out her cheeks. "Well I don't usually walk home alone. And my sense of direction ran away when I was born."
Shinso couldn't help the laugh that erupted out of his throat. He quickly made sure to regain his poker face.
Tori giggled. "You have a nice laugh."
Shinso's eyes widened. What's with the random ass compliment?
Tori had already moved on without a second thought, her eyes following her own feet as they walked.
Then it hit Shinso. "Wait, if you don't walk home alone who do you normally walk with?"
"Oh, my dad. He works at UA. But he had to stay late for a couple of things today."
Her dad works at UA? I wonder who it could be, with that hair she looks nothing like any of the teachers. Shinso pondered, when he heard the rumbles of Tori's stomach.
"Heheh, sorry." She said with a close eyed smile.
Shinso sighed. "Let's go, my mom always has food prepared at home."
Shinso began walking away, when two small hands suddenly gripped his arm and wave it around like a rag doll.
"Oh my gosh thank you Shinso! You're totally awesome!" She beamed.
Shinso slightly gaped at her. If only she knew, then I wouldn't seem so awesome.
The pair reached Shinso's house with a conversation filled by Tori's non-stop ranting and Shinso's occasional input.
"Mom, I'm home." Shinso said as he entered the house, Tori's shorter figure trailing after him.
"Hitoshi sweetie! How was school? Did you-"
Mihoko froze in the doorway to the kitchen, hands paused in mid-wipe on her apron. Her eyes glued to Tori.
"H-Hitoshi you brought a friend home?" Mihoko asked, eyes turning to her sons.
"Yeah, is that okay?" Shinso asked.
Mihoko smiled, jumping to wrap her arms around her son. "It's more than okay! It's fantastic! I'm so glad you finally brought a friend home!"
Shinso's ears turned red and he grimaced. "Mom, you're being embarrassing."
Mihoko released her son and turned to Tori. "Hi, I'm Shinso Mihoko, Hitoshi's mom!"
Tori bowed, "Kazama Tori, it's nice to meet you!"
"Oh sweetie there's no need for that, I'm just honored such a pretty girl is friends with my Hitoshi."
"Mom," Shinso groaned.
Tori giggled as Mihoko went into the kitchen to finish cooking food for the two teens.
"Your mom is really nice." Tori said.
Shinso rubbed the back of his neck. "She can be a bit much sometimes-"
"Not at all!" Tori exclaimed.
Shinso looked at Tori in shock, her passionate outburst confusing him.
I have so many questions about this girl.
Shinso and Tori ended up eating the amazing food Mihoko made in his room. The boy throwing on a random anime on his tv as the two ate. It was pretty silent until Shinso blurted out a question.
"What class are you in?"
The blue haired girl snapped her head to him, having been previously transfixed in the show.
"Oh, I'm in class 1a. What about you?"
Shinso froze, of course she was. He didn't even know her quirk but this girl exuded the energy of a hero. "General studies, 1c."
"That must be fun!" Tori exclaimed.
Shinso glanced away. "I tired to get into the hero course."
"I'm sure you could be in the hero course! The exams were really more directed at people with flashy emitter quirks. So it feels unfair to people who shine better in other areas. Psh, I probably sound like such a hypocrite saying that." Tori ranted on.
"What's your quirk?" Shinso asked.
Tori smiled. "It's called Quake Wave, I can produce controlled earthquake waves from my hands and well, cause quakes to anything I aim at."
Shinso's brow raised. "Like you did with the lock?"
"Yeah, but my range expands way more than a door knob." She giggled.
"Must be nice having that kind of quirk, it was probably easy for you to get in." Shinso said, somewhat bitterly.
Tori shook her head. "Yeah having my quirk helped, but if it weren't for training and working hard on my dream it would be pointless."
Shinso looked down to his slender muscles. Yeah he was fit but still there was plenty of room for improvement, and what did he do, sit around moping about not being in the hero course. He should have been pushing himself, working harder, trying to fight his way into the hero course.
"Hey, what's your quirk?" Tori asked, snapping Shinso out of his train of thought.
"D-don't worry about it." There's no way she'd still talk to me if she knew what my quirk was.
"Oh, okay." Tori smiled.
How can one person be so nice? Shinso pondered, and he continued to ponder later that night when he walked Tori home.
"This is it." She said, gesturing to the not too large modern house in a secluded part of the street.
"Oh, okay."
"Thanks for walking me home Shinso!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah, no problem." Shinso replied, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I'll see you at school tomorrow!"
The way she talked to him... it was almost like...
Having a friend.
