In the weeks leading up to the Sports Festival Tori tried her best to act like her usual self. Happy and carefree. But it was hard, Shinso's words weighed down on her, hurting for more reasons than one.
Tori also felt empty, her and Shinso had been attached at the hip since they met and it felt weird now not hanging out with him. And she never saw him in the halls.
If she knew a person well enough, Tori's quirk could feel someone's footsteps, heartbeat, and overall vibration if she tried hard enough to notice it, so she was able to avoid Shinso in the halls.
But despite her thoughts on Shinso, Tori had to focus, she wanted to do good in the sports festival, so she was training hard, her conflicted feelings about her former friend used as motivation.
And her "focus" on training was also her excuse for why she quieted down more. Tori didn't talk nearly as much as she used to.
Her loud mouth seemed to drive everyone away...
That thought filled her head as it always did, and it even did now as class ended and it was time to head home.
"Hey, cloud girl, why the hell are you so quiet? It's pissing me off."
Ah, cloud girl, a certain blonde's nickname for Tori, since she had sky colored hair and according to him "her dumbass head was always in the clouds."
"Umm, I've just been thinking about the sports festival a lot, that's all." Tori said with a nervous giggle.
Bakugo glared at her, obviously not believing what she said. But, he "didn't care," so he didn't press Tori further.
But, as they exited the class, Bakugo did try to get her going on one of her usuals rants, but he was pissed off to find the exit to their classroom blocked."Why's like all of UA in front of our classroom?" Tori asked as she saw what everyone else was seeing, adding onto the many questions already asked.
From beside her, Bakugo answered with a bored expression and his hands in his pockets. "They're scouting out the competition, idiots. We're the class that survived a real villain attack. They wanna see us with their own eyes."
Bakugo walked right up to all of the students, Tori cautiously following behind him.
"At least now you know what a future pro looks like, now move it, extras." Bakugo said.
"You can't walk around calling people extras just because you don't know who they are!" Iida exclaimed as he chopped his hand through the air. Midoriya and Uraraka petrified by Bakugo's bluntness.
Then a familiar voice perked Tori's ears, and she suddenly wished she had Hukakure's Quirk.
"So this is class 1-A, I heard you guys were impressive, but you just sound like an ass." Shinso said as he moved to the front of the crowd. "Is everyone in the hero course delusional? Or just you?"
Everyone behind Bakugo, minus Tori, was waving their arms frantically, knowing that provoking Bakugo was a terrible idea. Tori was busy staring at Shinso with a hint of fear in her eyes, unintentionally shrinking in on herself.
"Huh?" Bakugo asked, pointing his chin up.
"How sad to come here and find a bunch of ego-maniacs. I wanted to be in the hero course, like many others here I was forced to choose a different track, such is life." Shinso continued, rubbing the back of his neck and trying his hardest to not make eye contact with Tori. "I didn't cut it the first time around, but I have another chance,
If any of us do well in the sports festival, the teachers can decide to transfer us to the hero course. And they'll have to transfer people out to make room. Scouting the competition, maybe some of my peers are, but I'm here to let you know that if you don't bring your very best, I'll steal your spot right from under you. Consider this a declaration of war." Not once did Shinso's bored and tired expression leave his face, but he did risk a glance at Tori, to find her staring at Bakugo, not him. Which for some reason made his blood boil slightly.
"Hey you! I'm from class 1-B next door to you! We heard you fought some villains and I came to see if that was true! But you're just a bunch of brats, you think you're better than us!" Some guy with silver hair suddenly exclaimed. "Talk all you want! It'll just be more embarassing when you're KO'ed."
Tori was looking at Bakugo, waiting for him to explode on Shinso and then the other guy, who contied yelling, but he calmly started to walk away, giving a glance to Tori, so she followed.
"Dude where are you going? You gotta say something! It's your fault they're all hating on us, Bakugo!" Kirishima exclaimed.
"These people don't matter," Bakugo paused, "the only thing that's important is that I beat them."
Tori continued following Bakugo, glancing back at Shinso, for a moment...
To find he was already staring at her.
