Deaton had just patched up Scott as good as he could after the Manticore got a hold of him. He could only do so much; the paralysis that the creature had, had stopped Scott's werewolf healing.
He also had watched the creature try and attack the Sheriff; it wasn't successful, thankfully. But that raised the question, where was Stiles? He is always with Scott when they hunt any new creatures down. And to not know about his dad was strange as well. He knew it was time to call and find out.
"Hello, Stiles, this is Deaton. I called to let you know that I patched Scott up the best I could. But the Manticore's paralysis poison stops werewolf healing. I haven't seen you around in a while, so I thought it best to call. I also have some bad news for you. It seems like the Manticore has started targeting your dad now, he is fine for now, but that could change." He informs Stiles of what happened. He knew it wasn't the best conversation to have over the phone, but there was no other option at this point.
A call that had made the boy's blood run cold. Almost like ice, in fact. Stiles found himself incapable of answering at all; the boy could do not much more than listen. He didn't care so much for Scott at the time, but his dad.. was another story. Ignoring Derek and Laura (he was on the verge of panic, after all, his excellent mood gone completely!), he had gotten up, began erratically gathering his things. He couldn't stay here anymore, had to go back. His Dad, it hammered in Stiles's mind, the boy afraid, fearful for his father's life.
Derek and Laura watched as Stiles's face changed as he listened to the phone. From what they could hear, it wasn't good; the Sheriff was in danger. They also couldn't let Stiles go back on his own; there was no telling what would happen to him. They both silently agreed that they were going with him; they wouldn't let their new packmate go alone. They hadn't told him yet, but they considered him part of their pack.
Derek let Laura go and stop Stiles from leaving while he packed what he needed. He grabbed what he could fit into his bag before making his way to the living room again.
Laura followed Stiles to the guest room, where he keeps his belongings. Wanting to stop him before he could run off without them. "I hope you realize that we are coming with you, right?" She asks. Blocking the door so the younger can't escape.
Words that got him, to some level, out of his panic, a bit at least. He glanced at her, tears almost welling up in his eyes, his head shaking a bit. "N... no, I... Laura, I- I appreciate you... saying that, but, I, I... can't ask that from.. from you. If... if it's gotten Scott so bad, who.. knows what it.. could.. do to you... It... it's a Manticore. No idea how they know but, it's after my dad now; I... I need to..." Hands shaking, he tried to close his bag, had stuffed anything he found so hastily in it, though couldn't. He panicked too much.
Derek heard the sound of his mate's heartbeat increase and knew he was about to have a panic attack. So instead of waiting, he went into the guest room and took over for Laura. He motioned for her to go and pack up while he comforted his mate.
He walked up behind Stiles and wrapped his arms around him, pulling him back against his chest. He also brought his head down to the other's ear to whisper. "We will figure this out, okay? All three of us will go back and help save your dad." He whispered. He was slowly rocking them back and forth.
"...Y.. yeah, but-Derek, he's.. he's the only parent I have left.. c.. can't lose both.. w... I need to go back... r.. right now, like, at this moment..." Stiles's voice broke; he stayed in Derek's arms. He was leaning into him even, needing the hold—the security.
Derek slowly turned Stiles around to face him. He slowly brought his hands up to the younger's face, moving him, so they were looking into each other's eyes.
"Please listen to me; I'm not going to let you do this on your own. Both me and Laura know what it's like to lose your parents; we don't want you to experience the same thing." He tells Stiles, hoping that he understands.
"I can't lose you, Stiles. If something were to happen to you, I don't think I would be able to survive." He tells his mate, looking him in the eye, pleading with him.
"...Y.. yeah, Derek.. b-but, let's... if you... insist on coming, like... she does, then... lets... let's go now, please... From, like, what Deaton... he said, it could have attacked Dad already, and.. and.. please... need to.. be there, Derek.. he.. he doesn't know about.. about any of this. Not.. about werewolves or.. anything..."
"We will all go together, okay? We already packed our bags." He tells him before leaning forward and kissing Stiles on the forehead. "We will do whatever we can to save your dad. Now, do you feel okay driving? Or do you want me to drive Roscoe with you and have Laura follow, or have Laura drive all of us in her car?" Derek asks him.
"...Y.. yeah. I'm... I'm not leaving ..it behind..." He managed, nodding after Derek's question. Driving sounded good; in fact, it gave him something to do. Something he could focus himself on. To keep himself busy.
"Okay, I'm going to ride with you. Let's go tell Laura what we decided." Derek says before pulling Stiles by the hand out of the room.
Once in the living room again, they meet up with Laura. "I'm going to ride with Stiles, and you can follow us. Stiles said his dad doesn't know anything about the supernatural, so that will be a conversation that we will have to have with him." He explains to his sister.
"Okay, it looks like we have a plan now, so let's head out," Laura says before grabbing her stuff and heading to the cars.
Stiles followed them instantly; his bag nervously clutched in his hands. He went to the Jeep, barely waiting until Derek was in before he drove off, ahead of Laura. May need be or not, that way he could show her where to Drive. It took hours. Way too long, in Stile's opinion, until they were back, the hours in the car nerve-wracking. Tense. Silent, as he had no energy to talk to Derek right now, worrying way too much.
After many hours on the road, they finally reached Beacon Hills. It was weird being back here after eight years away. But here they were.
Derek could only assume they were heading to Stiles's house. They did need to check on his dad and tell him what was going on now.
As if he would go anywhere else than there. He needed to know, see, that his father was unharmed, safe, healthy as he could be. Given it was Beacon Hills, after all. Stiles had barely even parked, as he already hurried out of the car, made his way to the building.
When Stiles jumped out of the Jeep, Derek ran after him. He didn't want him to do any of this by himself. In case something had happened or would happen.
Laura also parked her car behind the Jeep and ran behind her brother and his mate. She wanted to protect her pack at all costs.
"Dad? Where-" Stopping midsentence, Stiles came to an erratic, unexpected stop. Seeing his father primarily unharmed, with not much more than a few bruises and scratches. Just on his beginning of a peaceful rest of the day, after this attack from.. something he hadn't been even able to identify. At Stiles' words, however, (the boy still clueless Derek and Laura considered him as theirs by now), he looked up, confusion written on his face. "Wh... Weren't you supposed to be away with Scott for a while?" He asked, dumbfounded as Stiles ran to him, hugging him tightly. He had some others following him, a man and a woman, both rather attractive. Siblings, maybe cousins on the first guess.
Derek and Laura just stood in the entryway, not sure what to do. They didn't want to stop the father-son moment that was happening, but they knew that they should introduce themselves. They decided to wait and have Stiles introduce them; it would probably be better that way.
"Who are they? Where were you, kid? From what Melissa..." The Sheriff began, only to be interrupted now. "...They're.. ok. They took me in. A while, I guess. Because... maybe.. the road trip.. together with Scott wasn't exactly the truth?.. They're Derek and Laura..." Glancing over to them, he asked for help silently. He didn't know where to begin.
Laura decided to go first. She would probably be better at explaining everything. "It's nice to meet you again, Sheriff. I'm not sure if you will remember us, but we are Laura and Derek Hale. You helped us when our family home caught on fire eight years ago." She says, giving the man some time to think over what she said.
