Did it work?

Josie, Lizzie, and Hope hoped up into the car. They stayed in silence for about five minutes until Lizzie broke it when she saw a familiar place. It was a small white building that had a huge sign that read "Á La Mode" and had a giant picture of an ice cream cone with a smiley face on it. Lizzie immediately told Josie to turn and watch it, telling her to remember the time when they went there together as a family after the mother's day festival. Lizzie watched Josie with a look filled with longing and hope, but all she saw was Josie trying really hard to remember. She knew that Josie would never hurt her feelings so Lizzie was sure she would pretend to remember at least a little, and she did.

"Oh yeah, that was cool" Josie said with a little grin

Lizzie looked forlornly at her and grinned back. Lizzie tried to appeal to Josie's emotional memories at least four more times on their way to New Orleans. The first one was when they passed the store where they went shopping for the first time. The next one was when they drove by the McDonalds where they celebrated their third birthday. The third one was when they passed the Mystic grill, the place where they met every Friday with their friends, and finally when they drove by the sign of "you are leaving Mystic Falls" which they have seen a thousand times every time they went to visit Hope and the Mikaelsons in New Orleans, just as they were doing now.

Each time Lizzie made Josie look at one place Josie acted as she remembered and nodded with a smile, but Lizzie knew that if Josie was truly remembering something, Lizzie wasn't included in the picture. When they stopped at a convenience store Josie went to grab some snacks and Lizzie stayed with Hope.

"She is just pretending isn't she?" Lizzie asked hope

"Yes, definitely, she just doesn't want to hurt your feelings" Hope replied

"I know" Lizzie sighed, she was well aware of that, she knew her sister like the palm of her hand

"Hey, it will be fine, we are going to fix this and I assure you that when we are on our way back home, she will look at those places and be as delighted as you are" Hope said sincerely

"To be honest, I'm going to try to keep my expectations low" Lizzie replied

At that very moment, Josie came back from the store with a bag of chips and three sodas

"Expectations of what?" Josie asked

"Expectations of finding a spot with a good cell phone reception in this place" Lizzie snarled

Both Hope and Josie let out a little laugh, they got back in the car and drove the next three and a half hours they have left in comfortable silence, well, silence accompanied by the music they sang at the top of their lungs for the rest of the journey. When they finally arrived in New Orleans, Freya was already there with his wife Keelin to greet the girls. Lizzie had never met Freya in her life and was a little timorous if not terrified to meet such an iconic and powerful witch for the first time. Josie, on the other hand, looked very calm and happy to see her again. Lizzie suddenly remembered the meeting they had had when Josie brought back everyone's memories of Hope. Lizzie found it quite gratifying that this time they were there to return her the favor.
