42: The Confrontation

Caren looked at her wristwatch while in the taxi. She knew that Halle would be at home by the time she arrived at her apartment. Even though she felt a lot of anger and pain, she tried to remain as calm as possible. It was very hard for her to accept Halle's betrayal.

The taxi dropped her in front of the apartment building and after paying the driver, she went up the stairs. She noticed her hands were a little shaky and her heart was beating a little faster. Jill's words crossed her mind... "Love can never be measured by time."

She stood in front of Halle's door. For the first time, she would see her friend as an enemy. She became a little nervous not knowing how the conversation was going to go and how she was going to react to Halle's words. Even though she's now aware of the truth, Caren wondered why she was still in denial over Halle's betrayal.

She took her phone put of her purse and turned the voice recorder on. She had a lot of questions to ask and she needed Halle's response to be recorded.

She knocked on the door and after a few seconds, Halle opened it.

"Hey Girl! What a surprise, come in." Halle said with a smile on her face. "Is everything alright? You look a little pale." She observed.

"I found out the truth!" Caren stared her in the eye.

"What truth are you talking about?" She gave a nervous chuckle.

"You were the person behind the camera! You were the one who filmed me at Jakes party!" Caren yelled and Halle froze.

"... What? Me? You must be mista__"

"Shut up, Halle! I saw the footage. Are you going to deny it now? Do you want to follow me to Jake's house so I can show it to you? Or maybe you have forgotten how you lied to Jake and told him, I was the one who asked you to film me."

"I told you that Olivia and her stupid cousin are nothing but a bunch of liars. I never told him anything of that sort. And I definitely was not the one behind the camera at the party. Jeez!" Halle pushed her hair backwards and sat down on her couch.

"Okay then! This is the best you can do right? No problem. Honestly, I thought that after telling you this, you'd feel the slightest bit of shame and ask for my forgiveness or better still, you'd give me at least one reason as to why you hurt me so bad. But it's all good. Since this is the way you want it, then I have no other choice than to take you to court with the evidence that I have and make you pay for everything that you've done to me." She turned her back and headed for the door.

"Wait!" Halle stood up and Caren came to a halt.

"Are you really serious? Did you see the footage?" Halle asked.

"Does it look like I'm joking? I saw the footage, Halle! I saw how you went and and got your phone from that basket and filmed me making a fool of myself. I saw everything! So if you still think that I'm lying to get a reaction from you, then you just wait and see what will happen. I can only give you one piece of advice though, for old time sake... You better go and lawyer the fuck up because I'm coming for you. The way I'm going to take you out in court, not a single soul will be able to save you from the wrath of the law. You just wait and see." She opened the door and Halle grabbed her hand.

"Caren... I'm sorry... Please don't take me to court, please."

"What are you sorry for? You have done so many horrible things to me, I want to know exactly which one you're apologizing for Halle."

"I'm sorry for lying to you all these years, Caren. Please forgive me!" Her eyes welled up with tears.

"I will forgive you on one condition."

"I'll do anything, please I'm really sorry."

"I'll forgive you on the condition that you tell me the whole truth."

"I will!" She sobbed.

"Okay then!" She shut the door and went back to the living room. "Why did you not tell me that you took a video of me running around naked at Jake's party?"

"When I took the video, my first thought was that you'd find it funny and laugh about it, but after you told me you were happy with the fact that no one was allowed to take pictures or videos of anyone, I assumed you'd be extremely upset knowing that I went against the rules."

"Tell me Halle, how did that video get to Miles' cousin's phone?"

"Oh Caren... I... Please I'm sorry." Her fingers curled up.

"All I want are answers Halle!" She sat down on the couch. "Tell me how did that video get to Miles' cousin?" She asked sternly.

"Well... Let me first say that, I did it for your own good, Caren."

"Oh really? How so?"

"Miles was never good for you! I saw right through him. I felt like he was wasting your time so I came up with a plan to get him away from you."

"Hm! Okay?"

"I knew the only way I was going to get him to break up with you was to show him the video, so I came up with a plan. I contacted a friend who's an information security expert and I told him I needed him to send a video to someone. I remembered you mentioning that Miles was very close to one of his cousins so I did a little research to find out who the person was. After that, I had my friend find out the necessary information needed to get the video across to him."

"Why didn't you just send it to Miles?"

"He's a politician! There was no way to get his information. I even tried checking your phone but I didn't see his name in your contacts."

Caren stared at Halle wondering how she's been friends with her this whole time. She was in great pains over such betrayal and there was a lot she had to say to her but not before all of her questions have been answered.
