📜Chapter 20: Blessed those who have the courage to defend what they love.📜

𝑁𝑎𝑟𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑟'𝑠 𝑃𝑂𝑉

Early in the month of November, days kept getting shorter, colder and darker.

The City, getting ready to go to bed after another long day, was all lighted up by fireplaces and the streets smelled like dinner.

In the almost-completely-dark stood our favourite dark-haired man, paying and dismissing a surgeon he'd personally called to his house.

Levi had taken long to find him, as he was assisting another patient.
And that patient was left there, the job undone, because the doctor preferred to follow the senator, hoping to get on his good side by saving someone-close-to-power's life.

But he'd ultimately found himself bent over a brunet slave, fixing the large wound on his forehead.
The man kept cursing under his breath, doing the job he didn't even want to perform once he'd got to know who his patience was going to be.

But feeling Levi's scary eyes on him, he put extreme care into it.
He didn't even dare to ask why the raven was so worried for a simple slave.

And when he was finally dismissed and ready to leave, after having checked all of Eren's body as Levi had put quite a bit of pressure on him, he demanded quite a bit of money and was happy to get what he wanted.

That job done, Levi finally got back into the house.
He'd left Eren to be cared of by Armin, who'd insisted to do it.
The brunet laid semi-unconscious after the surgery, having passed out from the pain.
He needed to rest, now.

Levi felt his eyelids and head heavy, he was cold and not in the mood to eat at all.

But he was happy.

He was heading for his room to go to sleep early, when he met his wife.

"You have a fever, don't you..?"
"No.
And even if I did, it's nothing that a good night of sleep can't fix."

As stubborn as he was, he turned his back to the shorter woman.

..

A few minutes later, he was laying on his side of the bed, not so well dressed under the covers, wet cloths on his forehead.

And after an hour like that, he was actually about to fall asleep.

When he was waken up by his uncle, who kept snapping his fingers in front of his nephew's face.

Levi grunted: "What the fuck do you want now.
You only talk to me when you need help with money or get in deep shit with justice."
"I knew I should have just left you to die when you were a kid.
But my sister would've died if you did.
I couldn't do that to her."

Levi rolled his eyes in his head, to ask the older to hurry and tell him why he'd come 'visit' his nephew.

"You know, that group of people that doesn't exactly like you?
They tried to ambush you.
You should really thank me and that pole-tall blonde friend of yours, for doing something about it."

The younger rolled his eyes again, thinking that: "You think I'm spitting bullshit, you brat?"
"Indeed, you are."

"Okay. But let me ask you: did you get to know why, how and who started that fire that nearly killed your mother and actually killed your father?
That left you with invalidating injuries?
Do ya have any idea?"

Levi widened his eyes that just a moment before was struggling to keep open.

..

They talked for almost an hour: sure, Levi thought his uncle wasn't the greatest man alive, but at least he was loyal to family.
