PREVIOUSLY . . .

Was I too straight foward? Maybe I scared her off . . . shit. What if she starts spreading things? Didn't mean for that to happen . . . she seemed like she was on the same page with me, so why would she be scared off? Maybe -

*ZZZZZZ*

My phone vibrates in my pocket. I take my phone out frantically and type in my password. Was it her?

I turn the corner. I'm no longer in the shade of the trees. Straining my eyes to see any apps, I swipe the screen. The glare of the sun didn't let me see anything, so I had to wait until I got home.

AND SO IT CONTINUES . . .

I open the front door. I sort of have to bend my head down in order to get in. I hear a vaccum in the distance.

Mmm. It smells like home.

"Okay, Adrian."

I put down my backpack in the dining area. I stride into the hallway hear the vaccum getting louder. I go into my room, and sure enough, she's vaccuming.

"Elijah, my boy!" She turns off the vaccum, and waddles over and hugs me. "Well, you have to bend down!" She kisses me on the cheek.

"Hi, mom." I smile a little bit. "I love you."

"How was schoool? Has your ex been botherin' you?"

"No. I haven't seen her."

"You're okay, right?" She cups my face.

"Well, I've finished! Enjoy the clean room! I'll go make you a sandwhich."

"Thank you." I laugh gingerly. She closes the door.

My mom is very kind. She was abandoned by my biological father before I could remember. I didn't know my father very well when he left us. I was only about three. I just remember his strong build and violent energy. She never knew why he decided to leave, but she seems to get by just fine without him. When I was young, I saw that my friends had dads, and I remember being confused about what that was. I asked my mom about it, but she didn't seem phased about the question. She just kept on with her fixated smile, and said "Your father is not here, but you have me. That is enough, right?". I nodded, but was confused as to what "not here" meant. I'm not good at that type of thing. Being vulnerable, or at reading the atmosphere, or at "getting" people. My mom is a tough cookie, and though she never talks about my dad, she may think about him all of the time. Sometimes I really wonder if I am a good son. If she can really rely on me. I plop down on my bed and take my phone out of my pocket, and type in the passcode.

I see the kik notification and press on it.

Adrian: (__) _(._.)_ _(_^_)_ m(__)m m(_ _)m Sorry I didn't text you sooner!

I see her picture and press on it. It's her and another girl smiling together.

I text back:

Me: It's ok. You're fine. I just got home.

Adrian is typing . . .

Adrian: Good! I'm really sorry though. m(_ _)m

Adrian: It's like 6:20 why are you home now????

Me: My busdriver is always late. He takes the long way

Adrian: Oh you go by bus? Where do you live?

Me: Hidden Springs

Adrian: Wow. That's not far at all . . . wtf is your busdriver doing XD

Me: Idk lol

Me: So about us

Adrian: Us?

Me: Dating

Adrian: We only have one period together

Me: We have two. I just wanted to skip it.

Adrian: How do you know?

Me: I checked your schedule

Adrian: Ok. Sooooo, how are we gonna make them jealous?

I think for a bit before typing.

Me: We have to wait for a couple of weeks before making it official, or else we'll get more shit for dating than anticipated.

Adrian: You do know that we have to kiss, hug, and act like we really love eachother, right?

Me: Yeah. I'm fine with that.

Me: But I'm gonna go all out. Are you okay with that?

Adrian: Yeah lol

Adrian: Hey I gtg do some stuff, so bai!

Me: Bye :)

I lay back in my bed, beat. Geez, is this gonna work
