I hear the sound of beeping and distant voices talking. My eyelids feel like they have lead attached to them, making them impossible to open. I hear a door opening and closing and a chair being scrapped across the floor.

"Lyric, sweetie, please. I need you to wake up. It's been almost two days and it feels so lonely without you." Dad? What happened? What's going on?

"The guys really miss you too, they're so upset. Andy is especially upset because he said you're his Batman Buddy." He let out a breathy laugh, but it was quickly replaced with a soft sob. "If you can hear me, just know that I love you baby girl. We all do."

Ok I thought to myself Now would be the time to wake up. I worked on moving something anything. I focused on my hand. It felt the same as my eyes and it felt impossible to move.

Straining, it started to tingle and I was able to move it. It traveled up my arm and throughout my body. I tried opening my eyes and a couple seconds later I was able to open then. Brightness in the room blinded me and I blinked a couple times to get my eyes adjusted to the light.

I looked over to dad who was sitting with his head in between his hands. I saddened me to see him like this, though it was mostly my fault.

When I opened my mouth to talk, it was like my voice was snatched away from my body and all that came out was a small groan.

Dad's head instantly shot up and his face lit up at the sight of me.

"LYRIC! YOU'RE FINALLY AWAKE!!" He got up and hugged me. "I'll be right back I'm gonna get the nurse." He ran out of the room and I was alone.

My thoughts went back to how I got here and I remembered the party and what Nicole did to me. I remember me trying to kill myself and then Andy breaking down the door and stopping me.

"Ms. Mora?" I heard a sweet voice say breaking me away from my thoughts. "How are you feeling?" Again I could only let out a groan and she looked at me confused.

"Can you talk?" She looked back and forth from me to dad.

"She's been able to before. What's wrong Lyric?" He rushed to the bedside and the nurse went to get the doctor. "Lyric why aren't you talking?"

I shrugged and tried to find my voice but it seemed like it hate just disappeared from my body. The doctor and nurse came back in and asked dad to step aside for a couple of minutes.

"Now Lyric why don't you try to tell me something." The doctor asked. I opened my mouth; no words came out. I started to get frustrated and put my head in my hands.

"Oh no sweetie don't cry. It's okay." Dad said putting his hand on my back. "What's wrong with her? Do you know?"

"Well, Mr. Mora since she has had emotional trauma over the period of her life and then having such a big experience with the suicide attempt, my diagnosis would be mutism."

"Mutism? S-so she won't be able to talk?" His voice sounded so hurt that it made me feel bad.

"I'm afraid so sir. We'll try some different medications and find a way to help her regain her voice. But in the meantime we need to run some test, I'll prescribe her some pills and you all should be good to go."

The nurse went to the monitor beside my bed and checked the heart monitor.

"Her heartrate seems to be back to normal." She wrote something down on her clipboard. "Doctor Martinez is there anything else we need to do?"

"I suppose not. Let me just give Mr. Mora the prescription and they will be able to sign out." Doctor Martinez and dad left the room leaving me and the nurse.

"Your dad brought you some extra clothes." She walked over to the chair and picked up a clean pair of sweats and one of his Metallica t-shirts.

I nodded and she handed me them. I went into the bathroom and changed from the clothes I had on before to the stuff dad brought me. The t-shirt was a little too big one me but it was okay. I glanced into the mirror and shook my head. I could see marks from where the boiling water hit my back and my eyes had dark circles underneath them. Shaking my head, I walked back out and the nurse guided me to the waiting area.

Andy, Jake, Jinxx, and Ashley were all waiting in chairs. Jake was the first one to notice I was there and he jumped up and ran over to me, pulling me into a tight hug.

"Oh my God! We've missed you so much!" Jake practically yelled. The rest of the guys had ran over and joined in on the hug. We earned some dirty looks from strangers but honestly I didn't care because I was with my family.

"Sorry to interrupt," The nurse said. "Um hello I'm Nurse Kelly and I've been taking care of Lyric. There is something that you need to know about her condition right now." She motioned for us to take a seat and I sat down on the floor, Andy sitting down next to me.

"As you know, Lyric has had an emotional past and with the recent events she has had something has come up that will effect her life greatly." The guys looked at each other worryingly then directed their attention back to Nurse Kelly. "Lyric has been diagnosed with mutism."

They all looked like they were about to cry.

"I'll let you get settled with your family Lyric. If you ever need help, you can always come back here and I'll help you." She got up and left us. It was silence until Andy broke it.

"What am I gonna do without my Batman Buddy being able to talk to me?" His eyes filled with tears and I leaned over to hug him. He cried into my shoulder and I tried to keep from crying.

"Lyric, are you ready to go home now?" I heard dad say. I pulled away from Andy and wiped the tears from off his cheeks. I nodded and stood up. Dad grabbed my hand and Andy took the other, Ashley, Jake, and Jinxx behind us, and we walked outside to our car.

Nobody talked and I just stared out the window. Everything was going to be different and it's all my fault. I leaned my head against the cool glass and thought back to the day that I was adopted that I was doing the same thing and how it relaxed me.

We arrived at the house and went inside.

"Maybe you should take a nap Lyric. I don't want you to be tired or anything." Dad said to me. It was surprisingly late and though I was asleep for almost two days it didn't seem like it. I was pretty tired.

I nodded and went upstairs to my room. I climbed into my bed closed my eyes. My thoughts were swirling all around in my head, making it difficult to fall asleep. But eventually sometime in the night sleep had finally taken over me.
