Chapter 39. Rascals.

Sunshine Resort, 8pm.

There's the music, people chatting and five men drinking beers while glaring at me at the round table.

Yeah...

They were glaring at me na para bang isa akong sutil na bata na napatawag sa principal's office na may limang terror na principals.

They are making it clear that what I did back there was so unforgivable.

Nilagok ko ang beer na hawak ko and said nothing.

Pero ilang minuto pa ang nakalipas at wala na yatang balak ang mga kaharap ko na umiba ng tingin.

I sighed.

"Come on, say it." I said with an irritated tone.

Wala pa ring nagsalita sa kanila.

"What am I supposed to do? I didn't know what to say!"

Napasandal silang lima sa upuan with those piercing eyes still pointed at me.

"You didn't know what to say? Seriously?" Hanz raised his brow.

"Of course he knew exactly what to say!" si Ken

"Yeah...just got no balls." si Drew

"Agreed." Z lifted his bottle of beer para makipagtoast kay Drew.

It made a loud 'klink' sound.

I know.

That was stupid.

Naduwag ako.

"Susugud-sugod ka dito and all you did was THAT?"

"Did you see her face when she tried to find the person? That was your cue, man!" si Enzo

"I was watching! I just...I didn't---"

"You should have kissed her right at her doorstep and boom! Problem solved." si Enzo ulit.

"That's not going to work! The last time we saw each other, I...I broke her heart."

"The more reason you shouldn't have ran away." si Hanz

"Agreed." singit na naman ni Z na inulit ang ginawa kanina, klinking Hanz's bottle of beer.

Tzk.

Drat!

They're right. I don't know what gotten into me.

Para akong teenage boy na takot ma-reject ng natitipuang babae.

I drank from the bottle, a big lump on my throat.

I'm missing her, goddammit!

I'm missing her even more lalo pa nang makita ko siya exactly as how I pictured her in the back of my mind.

She's the most beautiful woman in the morning with her pajamas on and fluffy slippers.

And her morning hair makes me wanna touch her face and kiss her lips from dusk to dawn.

How could I ever walk away from such a beautiful sight? Nope---I ran away.

"I will do it again first thing in the morning."

"You better be! And you better do it right." sambit ni Ken

"Ah-huh. Or we'll do it for you." si Drew

"Yeah...your time is running. You look terrible and we know that that woman back there is the only one who can save you from your own heartache. So you better do your part or you'll regret it." litanya ni Hanz

"AGREED!" si Z na naman na wala nang ibang sinabi at ginawa kundi sambitin ang iisang salitang kanina pa niya inuulit.

I breathed deeply.

Yes, I should do it right this time.

What is right? What is the right time?

What will I do right this time?

"Well?" untag ni Enzo

I swallowed the last gulp of beer and put the bottle down.

"You're gonna help me, right?"

Now they're giving me their puzzled looks.

"You're not gonna make us do something stupid, are you?" si Ken

"Nope."

"Are you sure about that?" si Hanz

"Yup."

"Make one wrong move and we're outta here." si Enzo

"Not again."

"I have a feeling that were not going to like this." si Drew

"Look...i'd do anything just to have her back and if everything we're going to work on won't work...well...then you can have my Ford Everest, free of charge, scratch-free."

Silence.

It's the first time I ever get to give a bet.

Hindi naman sa nakikipagpustahan ako.

I just thought...what's the sense of having everything I wanted if I can't have her? The one I ever needed...and the only one I will ever need.

Z stood up and drained his bottle of beer and looked at me.

He offered his right hand and I gave him mine and so we shook hands.

He tapped me on my shoulder and spoke.

"Agreed." and then he grinned.

It was settled then.

Ah!

What would I do without these rascals?
