Chapter 14

Those Regrets

Kazutora and Himeno said their goodbyes to Baji and continued the walk to their house. The walk to their neighborhood was filled with idle chat, Himeno did most of the talking while Kazutora silently listened. His mind was on something else. And soon she ran out of things to say, giving him the opportunity to speak up.

"Mikey's birthday is coming up soon."

"It's on the 20th right?" Himeno asked, guilty of forgetting. Kazutora rolled his eyes, assuring her it was on the 20th.

"We have 18 days till then," she put her hand on her chin, "what should we get him?"

She started to come up with a list of possible options. Everything went through an ear and out the other for Kazutora, he already had the perfect gift in mind. The only problem was if she would approve.

"You remember that bike shop we passed by today?"

"The one with that bike Mikey's been dreaming of?"

"Yeah, the CB250T. Wouldn't that be a perfect gift?"

Himeno stopped walking, realizing that they reached the street where they go their separate ways. She faced Kazutora, shaking her head no. "It would but it's too expensive. Maybe if we get the others to chip in then we could get it."

"...Or we could steal it."

"Wha-"

Kazutora quickly covered her mouth as he put a finger to his lips and shushed her. He looked around before bringing back his hand. She spoke in a low hush. "You can't just steal a bike!"

"It's fine. Me and Baji already checked out the area. It's in the clear, it'll be an easy steal."

"Mikey would be angry if we got it for him that way!"

Kazutora slumped at the lecture of his friend. Baji had told him that Himeno wouldn't agree to something like that but he didn't listen. "Trust me Hime, it'll work out all fine."

"What if we get caught? We won't be able to get away with it."

"C'mon don't you want to see Mikey happy?"

"I don't want you to get in trouble Kazu."

Kazutora brought back his hands, his heart fluttering. He examined her distraught expression and decided to let it go. "Sorry Hime, rather you're in or not, me and Baji are still going to go through with it."

"If you ever change your mind, just give me a call."

The next day rolled around and the hours went by faster. The time of the operation soon came. Baji and Kazutora made their way to the bike shop, dressed in all black.

"So what did Himeno say?" Baji asked as he fixed his mask. Kazutora shrugged, eyeing the clock on a building. Baji looked at the tool in Kazutora's hand, second-guessing his decision.

"Are you sure about this Kazutora? There's no going back y'know."

The two heard footsteps running to the alley. Baji tensed up but Kazutora stayed calm with a smile on his face. At then end of the alley was a girl with pink hair dressed in all black, a flashlight in her hand

"Himeno?"

She shined it on them, bringing down her mask to show her smile. "Let's do this."

Even Himeno's going along?

"It's fine Himeno, you don't have to do this." Baji told her as she approached them. She looked at Kazutora and then back at him.

"I have to be here, if I'm not here you guys will do something stupid. We're a trio remember!" She gave Baji a small punch
