I was walking from the changing room after changing into more comfortable clothes at a quicker pace, practically sprinting. I noticed the school we're up against as I got closer to the gym. I considered ignoring them and continuing on my route, but a couple of them saw me and I had to stop and welcome them. "You must be from Ogi Nishi High School. "Welcome to Karasuno." I gave them a bow and led them inside the gym. I went beside Hitoka and whispered my apologies for being late to Shimizu-senpai. "Let's have a great game!"
Both squads wasted no time in warming up and heading to a designated area to do their drills. They are extremely good, based on what I've seen in Karasuno during their training. They've improved since the game with Date Tech; it's not a big leap forward, but it's progress nonetheless. And all I can say about Ogi Nishi High is that they're good, but I'm confident that Karasuno will defeat them.
"We're starting soon. Get changed as quickly as possible." Daichi-senpai gave the order. I was picking up stray balls when I saw the guys were removing their shirts. Because I'm not used to it, it took me by surprise, so I turned to look in the opposite way, where Hitoka was. When I realized we had the same reaction, I burst out laughing. "I'm sorry, but you're going to have to get accustomed to it." Shimizu-senpai said. The boys quickly escalated into chaos. "Like a flock of birds." When Hitoka and I both said that at the same time, we exchanged glances. "A flock? They are, after all, flocks." Shimizu-senpai laughed heartily. "However, once the match starts, they get along fine."
"This is the first practice match after the inter-high preliminaries. You guys haven't forgotten the frustration you felt back then, right?" The boys all replied yes when Coach Ukai asked them. "Fight, Karasuno!" Following that, all of the regular players went to their respective positions. Our team was the first to serve, and Kageyama-kun was the one to do so. HIs services are really good, but with more control and precision it'll be unstoppable, unless the opposing team has a libero like Nishinoya-senpai. When Kageyama-kun executed his jump serve, the ball bounced to the opposite team's side. I signaled the ball was in by pointing the flag to the ground. Hitoka-chan was with Shimizu-senpai, who was in charge of the scoring, while I was on the other side's line judge signaling duty.
Player number 8 from the Ogi Nishi high went for a spike, Tsukishima-kun tried to stop it, but number 8 feinted, so Nishinoya-senpai recovered the ball. "That's cool." I muttered. Because he observed how high Tsukishima-kun leaped to stop him, Player No. 8 switched his choice from spiking down the ball to feinting. However, as I previously stated, a good libero will go up against a strong spiker. Nishinoya-senpai passed the ball to Kageyama-kun, who tossed it to Asahi-senpai, our ace. 'I would've wanted to receive that.' I pondered. Whenever I receive a ball spiked by an ace, I get a great sense of accomplishment.
Tanaka-senpai is an excellent spiker as well. He isn't easily agitated, and his strength isn't a joke either. I would have assumed Tanaka-senpai was the ace if I hadn't known Asahi-senpai was the one. When I noticed sunbeam getting ready for a spike, I focused my attention on him. 'I almost forgot about him.' And just like the first time I witnessed it, it still astound me how swift their quick attack is . Sunbeam can really fly.
The match has now concluded, and we are currently cleaning up the area. Sunbeam and Hitoka-chan were conversing while I was picking up stray balls. "Awesome! That was fantastic! I was only observing you guys, but I couldn't help but feel..." Hitoka-chan stopped for a moment, trying to come up with a suitable term to convey her feelings. "Brimming with passion?" Hinata inquired, to which Hitoka-chan replied affirmatively. "Then, be our manager." I giggled at their conversation.
I proceeded to pick a few more balls before placing it in the cart. I thought I was finished, but I realized I had overlooked one ball in the corner, so I went to get it. I walked back to the service line where I had left the ball cart. I paused for a moment and studied the ball in my palm as well as the opposite side of the net. Then I returned my gaze to the ball. "Go for it." I moved my gaze to Tsukishima-kun. "So, you're talking to me now." He rolled his eyes as I raised an eyebrow at him. "You've been ignoring me for the past few days, and now you're acting as if it never happened. Tsukishima-kun, what's the matter? Did I do something wrong?" I asked, concerned. "You didn't. I'm sorry. These few days, I've had something on my mind." He let out a sigh. "You know, you can talk to me as well. You can count on me since I'll be your manager." I gave him a kind grin.
"Alright, but are you going to spike it?" He made a gesture toward the ball in my hands. "No, I'm actually tired." I went right by him on my way to the cart to place the ball. "I think you're just lazy." I strained my eyes and whipped my head towards him. "Just so you know, I'm not like you." I sassed. "I can tell the difference." He said while comparing our heights. "You bi-" I was cut off when Daichi-senpai called me. "He started it, and I was actually going to say beanpole" I excused. When Daichi-senpai wasn't watching, I threw a ball at Tsukishima-kun, but he threw the same ball back at me, which irritated me, so I picked up two balls and threw them to him at the same time. That's how we ended up collecting the balls that I had previously picked up, and we were also scolded by captain.
