The New Kid

Chapter 21: What the h*ll is going on?

(Warning. Might be emotional for some readers)

That night, I go to the library. It's a Friday night and Randy and Ash decided to go to the movies. They invited me along, but I didn't want to intrude. They just need to get together already.

I stroll through the front doors, stuffing my car keys in my pocket, and head towards the front desk. I lean on the counter and place the books I was turning back in on it.

"Hello, Skylar," the librarian greets me.

I smile, "Hey. Is it just me today?"

She laughs quietly and shakes her head, "Surprising not. A group of kids around your age came in here earlier. Some left, but about 2 are still here."

I nod, "Well, I'm gonna go look around. Even though I've read most of the books here anyways." She laughs while I walk over to the books.

After a while, I go pick out Eragon. I've read the Inheritance Cycle many times but I love it. I love dragons.

I walk over to sitting/reading are and sit in one of the love seats and stretch out.

Once I'm about half way through the book, I hear arguing coming from behind one of the many bookshelfs. Glancing at the clock- it's past 1am- I stand up slowly and tiptoe quietly to were the voices are coming from.

"I can't keep doing this!" I hear an oddly familiar voice shout. I look around the corner just to turn back around and hide behind the shelf, breathing deeply.

"What are they doing here?" I say quietly to myself.

"You shouldn't've listened to what I said in the first place! Technically, this is all your fault!" I hear someone get pushed and Zack cursing loudly.

"I was idiot to think that you actually liked me! I thought you liked me for who I was! Not just so you could get back at Sky! Ash and Sky did nothing to Rachel! It was all you and that douche, Tristian!"

"Why would I, the most popular girl in school, actually like you, an emo boy?? I've seen those cuts on your wrist! Why do you cut, huh?!"

"I cut because of you, Chelsea! I cut because you made me break the heart of the girl I was falling in love with!" I hear Chelsea gasp. "Yeah! You heard me! By the way, we are through."

I heard stumping and quickly try to back away but fall back. I see feet walking towards me and look up to see Zack staring down at me. I quickly glance to his wrist. He had been cutting. He catches me looking and quickly pulls his sleeves down.

I look up at him in shock and stand up slowly. I back away a few feet, teary-eyed, "I....." I can't find the right words to say so I turn around and dart my way through the library. Stopping to pick up Eragon and the rest of the series.

After checking them out with the librarian, I run out to my car and climb in quickly. I lock the doors and lean back in my seat, catching my breath.

Did that really just happen? Did he really say he was falling in love with me? Does he really cut? What the hell is going on?
