Shiloh gave her a knowing smile as Kei panicked about getting ready. Clothes were thrown all around the dorm, littering the floor and beds. Restraining a laugh, Shiloh sighed and pulled out of the long discarded light purple sweater dresses Kei had looked at earlier.
"Wear this, Kei," she gave the Head Girl a knowing smile.
Kei met the girl's eyes through the mirror and shook her head, "drop your smirk, Bones."
Shiloh said nothing as Kei took the dress and quickly changed, pulling leggings up her bare legs. Taking a quick glance at themselves, Kei grew thankful for Shiloh; she looked good.
"Thank you."
"Who's your date with?" inquired Shiloh.
"Gina Lestrange," Kei mumbled.
"I was waiting for that," she admitted, earning a look from Kei. Shiloh shrugged, "you're always with her. Plus I see the way you look at her when she's not looking— you forget that just because she's not looking doesn't mean no one else is."
Kei sighed softly and arranged her hair into a braid, "and you? Date with your Gryffindor."
She smiled sadly, "We all can't have what we want."
"What?" They stopped and turned to face her.
"Bloody idiot didn't ask me out," Shiloh shrugged.
Kei grumbled, "I hate boys."
Shiloh laughed in agreement.
Finally finishing getting ready, Kei pocketed her wand and slipped on her shoes giving Shiloh one last smile before leaving. There seemed to have been a permanent smile on the Hufflepuff's face as they made their way to the entrance hall in time to meet Gina for their Valentine's Day date. Kei slowed her walk as she noticed Gina. She was talking with Vic, looking slightly angry, per usual.
"Gina," Kei smiled, walking up to the pair.
"Hey, Sunflower," she greeted as Vic looked Kei over, "bye, Higgs."
That was the end of the conversation as Mr Filch finally allowed them to leave for Hogsmeade. Kei grew nervous, feeling on edge about hanging out with Gina. Of course, they'd had loads of hanging out together, but never had it been a date.
"Are you and Vic all right?" Kei finally asked.
She hadn't missed Vic's dismissal or the heated nature of the twin's talk just before she had walked up. It wasn't unusual to see them arguing about menial things, but taking the events of the last week, Kei felt slightly on edge.
But Gina only rolled her eyes, "we're fine, Kei. You and Moody?"
Kei sighed, "we're fine. I didn't mean to– I just wasn't thinking."
"That's fine. It was bound to happen," she said. "He should have told Vic though instead of him finding out by accident and by you."
They cringed, not liking hearing what they already knew. Gina noticed Kei's discomfort and ran her hand down Kei's arm before lacing her fingers through theirs. A wave of butterflies went through Kei at Gina's action. She really likes me, Kei thought.
Their walk to the love-themed village was quiet but pleasant. Kei didn't mind the quietness as she revelled in feeling Gina's hand in hers. Never had she thought that there'd ever been a moment like that between the two girls, it left her feeling giddy. They thought back to the Yule Ball last year, their dance with the Slytherin— that had been one of the best moments they'd had, but this most definitely topped it.
