August and September flew by fast. Celebrating his birthday wasn't something Tiberius wanted to do, so a small cake and trip to Muggle London were enough for him. Halloween was an odd holiday as Kei and Tiberius only now realized how many muggle children lived in their neighbourhood. It was nice to see the children not worry about an impending war in their war.
"Witches don't look like that," Tiberius commented as he closed the door on a seven year old dressed more like a goblin-witch mixture rather than an actual witch like Kei.
She laughed, "well based on the newer muggle films, witches and sorcerers look quite evil. The muggle children don't know any better."
November passed without a problem on their end as they were just studying the defences they'd learned during Dumbledore's Army and all throughout their lessons at Hogwarts. But at Hogwarts, there had been a situation regarding a Gryffindor seventh year getting cursed by a necklace.
Alastor told the pair about the situation, information whirling around the Order as they tried to figure out what was happening. Tonks wasn't very pleased with the information as she had been on duty at Hogwarts in September and felt like she had missed something. Kei was certain that there was no way Tonks had missed anything more or less anything flying past Flitwick's wards.
And when December came around, Tiberius, who was officially training to be an Auror, was meant to show up to one of the dreaded Ministry Events for the Christmas holiday. In turn, Kei was going to accompany their best friend in solidarity. Although the pair was finally out from under Alastor's and Albert's charge for the events, as Ministry workers, they had to go themselves.
"You know, I hate you for making me do this," Kei said, pulling on Tiberius' tie.
"C'mon, Frankie, you would really have me go by myself?" he laughed as Kei dropped their hands.
She grumbled something under her breath as she adjusted the baby blue dress she wore. The long sleeves allowed her to hide her wand in there as the dress she wore was too short and would show the garter belt wand holder Shiloh had gotten her during sixth year.
"Apparating, right?" asked Kei.
"'Course."
Kei grabbed only Tiberius' hand and turned on the spot, apparating them to Bragman Manor. Sage Bragman was one of the Ministry Officials that were holding the Christmas Gala. Tiberius let go of Kei's hand and offered them his elbow to play as a polite gentleman.
"You're not allowed any Firewhiskey this year," Kei smirked as the doors in front of them magically opened.
"Didn't plan on it," he scoffed.
"On the other hand, I will be enjoying myself," she raised her brow and picked up one of the flutes of bubbly alcohol. "You're apparating us back home. I apparated us—"
"Franklin," a voice muttered behind her.
At the voice, Kei jumped and dropped the glass she had in her hand. Before she could think, the glass disappeared. A house elf.
Kei turned to see it was Alastor that had frightened her. He looked wary.
"Hello, Alastor," she smiled, plastering her perfect ministry child charm on.
"No funny business. You both should be cautious of the people around here," he warned in a rushed whisper. "Last time, we didn't have any idea who was on what side, but this time, we have a history of knowledge."
Last time. Kei knew Alastor was referring to the First Wizarding War. A horrible chill ran up Kei's spine at the idea of there being a second war. Tiberius nodded, not noticing Kei's sudden stillness. He said something to his dad and Alastor walked away from the pair, but Kei was too in her own thoughts to notice. The idea of there actually being another war scared her. Although they were well aware of what was at stake in the wizarding world at that moment, the childish side in her had hoped it wouldn't come to that.
