'so that's the reason why you don't trust people a lot and tend to be alone all of the time,'
Wonjin silently had his little conversation inside his head as he stared at the girl who was eating her desert after he took her out. It's not like it's a date, it's like a friendly date, or at least that's what he thought about it.
'it's because you're scared to go back to the past,'
He just heared her story and he's not gonna lie, it was partly traumatic and depressing at the same time. He never knew someone like her could hide such thing without trace of tears when in fact, her stories seems to hurt a lot.
As soon as the girl notice how his stare concentrated upon her, she immediately frowned in confusion before sitting up straightly and look at him up and down.
"why are you staring at me like that?" she asked.
Wonjin who was in daze immediately rose back from his deep thoughts as he blinked his eyes, shaking his head 'nothing' before shoving a spoon full of the strawberry cake they had ordered earlier.
"your story seemed pretty sad..." he started, wanting to start a new conversation before the silent atmosphere between them to could end up eating both of them as he clear his throat. "I'm sorry," he said, looking down.
"why are you apologising? It's not your fault anyways... also, it's been two years already I've moved on." she said, eating her cake.
The guy pursed his lips before nodding his head, understanding what he meant before moving on to finish the slice of cake he had.
Both were silent until...
A loud crash from the distant glass occured, Y/n didn't know what was happening, yet she was aware enough as her hearing became more awake before she grabbed Wonjin's head and made him crouch down the table, having his head layed above the surface.
Until then, a loud scream filled the whole place as one of the costumer from the side of their table was now bleeding and seemed like his shoulder was shot badly.
"sir! Can anyone please call 911, it's an emergency!?" one of the waitress said, panicking as she tried to help the man out.
As for Wonjin, he felt like his soul just left his body. If Y/n wasn't there and fast enough to grab him he could've been shot on the head.
Y/n finally confirmed that it was a gun fire after seeing the man's injury. Brows knitting in total question, Y/n immediately got up from her seat and walk near Wonjin, standing infront of him, covering his figure from the glass window which had made the latter draw on so much mystification.
"h-howㅡ"
"we gotta go," he was about to speak when Y/n suddenly grabbed his arms, shortly glancing towards they who got shot in the shoulder, eyes full of guilt but had no choice but to pull Wonjin out of the place for his own safety. "let's go." she said, obviously in a hurry as she leads Wonjin out from the intrance.
"wait! What was that!? How did you even know that was coming!?" Wonjin asked, shouting while he was left no choice but to held Y/n hand as they squeezed themselves along with some crowds of people while crossing the pedestrian. "yah! Jang Y/n!"
Giving up as she had enough, a sigh left Y/n's lips as she stopped from taking more steps and faced the latter who was still pale as death after the unexpected encounter.
She let go of his hand before taking out her phone from her pocket, searching for the message she received days ago after sending Wonjin home. She knows it was something suspicious but nothing seemed to be happening along those days... till now.
"do you know who's phone number is this?"
Asking, she showed the phone number to him along with message as Wonjin also took his phone and check someone's phone number. And the sooner he did, he was surprise to see that the phone number was owned by none other than his own half brother.
"that's Woojun's phone number," he said, heart beat started to increase at the second he said his name. Blood look like to leave his figure as Y/n again took his hand upon noticing the traffic light almost turning green.
Same day that afternoon, Y/n decided to no longer go back on school as he told Yubin to bring her and Wonjin's bag when he get home as both of them tried to sort things out upon what had happened hours ago.
"do you think he had something to do with this?" Y/n asked.
Unfortunately shooting someone can also be a purpose for disposing and from what had happened. It seemed like it was neatly planned to, gladly her reflexes was fast enough or she could be on his funeral right now.
"can I stay here for tonight?" Y/n look up to see Wonjin's desperate eyes once again, he had yet answer her question but his words already explains everything. He was scared.
Agreeing, Y/n finally nodded her head in response. Yet the thought of her younger brother coming out from school alone bothers her a lot. It's not like she was overreacting or anything, but she was indeed worried. And so she had decided to just pick him up.
"can you stay here?" hearing her words, Wonjin immediately look up with furrowed brows, already telling 'no' just by examining the look on his face. "I'll just pick up Yubin from school and I'll be home immediately," she added, standing up from her seat and was about to grab her jacket when Wonjin had caught her arms first.
Turning around to face him, she immediately asked "what?" as the guy could only look down as response, words caught up from his tounge yet he knows he won't be able to stop her when it's already about her brother's safety. After all, Yubin is the only thing she had left. She can sacrifice everything just for him and that's one fact he knows.
Sighing down, Wonjin took the jacket by himself before putting it around her shoulder, letting her wear it before sending her a warm smile, hand patting her head as her cheeks couldn't help but to burn upon the contact.
"be careful," he said.
"yeah sure," she nodded, looking down in both panick and flustered before making her way out of her bedroom to exit the house.
