The Philip of the Past
In another universe, Kati (father of Philip) cheats on Perla (mother of Philip) with another woman from another tribe. The woman was sold off for marriage as a sign of peace between the two tribes. Perla, infuriated, leaves Kati and her two sons, Martial and Philip.
Martial, who had witnessed everything, gatekept the information from his brother, Philip, in order to protect him. Martial's parents' divorce made Martial fear abandonment, because at such a young age, he never understood what familial love truly was. Kati, devastated, was rarely there for his children because he was busy training.
The two brothers grew up with an unknown woman for years, until Perla came back. Kati and Perla make an agreement to be wed again, but only in name because Kati needed a right hand woman to help govern their tribe. Perla agrees.
Philip doesn't know that Kati cheated.
Years later, during the Japanese colonization, Philip is captured by Japan. Martial, who could have done something to rescue Philip never did anything, causing distrust between the two brothers.
If you think about it, Philip had been both tortured and loved by Japan.
More years later, Martial becomes the Country Leader of The Philippines. He overworks himself, having little time to even talk to his brother.
Philip, tired of everything, commits suicide.

Q: Did Perla ever think of getting back with Kati?
A: Yes! She did, many times. After all, you can't just immediately stop loving the person who you fell in love with deeply all those years ago. However, cheaters never prosper, so she never once tried to approach Kati.
Q: Why couldn't Martial just tell Philip about the divorce? Why keep it a secret?
A: As an older brother, Martial always had this sort of subconscious duty to 'protect' Philip. Because Kati was both physically and emotionally distant after the divorce, Martial realized that his father's actions would hurt Philip if Philip ever got curious about why he was acting that way.
Q: Why did Kati need a right hand man to govern the tribe? What happened to his mistress?
A: Kati's mistress goes back to the village because she feels guilty of ruining and breaking apart a marriage. Kati, mentally exhausted from trying to keep his tribe safe and worrying about his son's future, doesn't even notice.
Q: Did Kati love his mistress?
A: No. It was a political marriage. They were only going to be married in name.
Q: Why didn't Kati apologize to Perla and explain the situation properly?
A: Because Kati's brother, Magdiwang and his wife made sure that Kati would never go near Perla.
Q: Did Perla ever visit Martial and Philip?
A: No and yes. Perla never once visited Martial, but she did talk to Philip. This was why Philip never questioned her disappearance. He thought it was normal for her to go on long 'vacations'.
