"RYOKAI!!!"

All the soldiers press their right fists onto their chest where the heart lies beneath and their left, goes to their backs. This is the true salute.

Commander Erwin Smith had just given his orders to the scout regiment: to rid of the Titans that roam too closely to the walls. Everyone dispatches.

You make your way through HQ. You'll exit the building and meet Sasha at the stables for your horses before you set off on the mandatory expedition. But before you step out into the daylight, you run into Jean Kirschtein.

Your eyes meet. His nose is bandaged. You open your mouth to say something to the man but all he does is scowl and click his tongue. His gaze averts elsewhere and he walks right past you without a word.

You turn around to watch his retreating body and your brows knit. You don't like the fact that he's upset at you. You didn't do anything wrong. This is his fault. Isn't it? Didn't the man do it to himself?

"Jean." You sprint after him.

"What?" His doesn't appear welcoming and he doesn't look at you either.

You match his pace, "What happened to your face?"

You suspect—or knew—that it was Levi. The man loved traumatic discipline (and normally to the face). You weren't exactly sure how Levi found out that the cut on your face was from Jean. You thought maybe it had been Eren who sold him out. But Levi, he's just too smart for his own good and not to mention, your eyes had given it away the other day in the dining hall.

"You really need to ask?" His voice is sharp and curt.

"Why are you so upset?"

He stops walking and he turns to look at you, "What do you want (Y/N)? I'm sure you made yourself quite clear that you weren't interested in me. So, please do me a favor and leave me alone. I'd really appreciate it."

You make a face, "I was just worried about you. We're still friends aren't we?"

"Yeah." He scoffs. His voice doesn't sound convincing, "Friends."

"What's that supposed to mean?!" You're offended by his sarcastic tone.

"Don't you have somewhere to be?" He asks and he's on his heels again.

You follow him, "Yeah, but you're going the wrong way. The stables are in the opposite direction."

"I'm not going to the stables."

"What? Why not?? The expedition is starting soon."

"I can't go! So do me a favor and be on your merry way!" He stops walking again and then he turns to you—again. He points at his face, "Cause every time I look at you I'm reminded of THIS! And the last thing I want is another beating!"

The light-haired male turns to leave. Due to his facial injury they wouldn't allow him to join today's mission. Although he didn't mind standing this one out he couldn't help but feel guilty for not being along side his comrades; it makes him worry. He would hate to see someone not return knowing he may have been able to do something about it. He tries to remain optimistic.

"Jean, wait...." This time you don't follow him and he doesn't stop at your words either. You didn't have time to chase him. You make it a point to see him later. You didn't want to leave this issue unresolved.
