"Hi."
"Oh my God."
"What?"
"I haven't seen you in forever!"
"I know!" She runs up to me and hugs me.
"I can't believe you're dating my brother." She whispers in my ear.
"I can't believe you didn't tell me he was your brother." I whisper back.
"Sorry." She says. "Do you need any help?"
"No, I think we're good."
"Good." I look to see Daniel, cornering Caleb in the corner. I hear muttering, and Caleb has a scared look on his face. I can't help but laugh. Sophie turns around to see the same thing I am. She walks up to her brother and pulls him away by the shirt sleeve. I walk outside and close the door. I stand beside Daniel, my arm wrapped around his waist. Sophie gives me a look.
"Hey! Don't look at me like that." I stand on my toes and kiss him, to show off, but also because he has REALLY soft lips.
"You guys are disgusting."
"Thanks." I say, and kiss him again.
We talk for a few minutes, and I see a car pull up into our driveway. A greenish Cadillac. My grandmother and grandfather are here. My grandfather is old. Very, very old. He's lived a long, long life. He means everything to me. He saved lives, and fought for our country. My grandmother met him while nursing him in the war. They give me hope. My grandma helps him out of the car, he holds in his hands, a small silver box. I walk down the porch steps.
"Hello grandmother."
"Congratulations darling." She says,
"Thank you."
"Hello, my dear." My grandfather speaks up.
"Grandfather! How are you?"
"I'm doing quite fine. I'm still hanging in there."
"Good for you."
"Give her the box, dear." Grandmother says. He holds out one hand, shaking uncontrollably.
"You didn't have to-"
"We insist, dear."
"Thank you. I'll open it later."
"Good, dear." They start to walk up the steps.
"Now, who are these people?" Grandfather asks.
"Well, you remember Sophie," Sophie does a quick wave, "and this my friend Caleb, and this- this is my boyfriend Daniel."
"Boyfriend?" Grandmother asks. Grandfather grips the rail manages his way up the rest of the porch steps.
"You better take care of my darling. If you even think about laying a finger on her I will, I will.. Umm..."
"It's okay, don't worry." Daniel says. I open the door for them. I walk him inside and sit him on the couch. I walk outside and playfully punch Daniel in the arm. He's so muscly.
"That was cute."
"What was?"
"You and grandfather."
"He's so nice."
"Agreed."
Another car. Another conversation. The occasional talk to Daniel. Walking inside, coming back outside. Repeat.
Once everyone is here, we walk inside and chat for a while. Lots of people brought me unexpected gifts. We all sit down for a nice pre-cooked chicken and cake with salad. God I love salad. My mother summons us all to our seats. I open a whole bunch of gifts, one by one, saving the small silver box for last. I received so many things. I'm so thankful for the family I have. At last I reach the small silver box. I open it, so see a small piece of paper. I turn the paper over to see of there is anything on the other side. My mouth drops in shock I put my hand over my lips. Oh my God. I mutter in my head.
"You shouldn't have."
"We love you darling."
"What is it?" My mother asks.
"It's, its a, it's a... Car."
