A light blue punch buggy with a convertible top. This is all too much. I walk up to grandmother and hug her. Grandfather opens his arms and I make my way into them.
"Thank you." I whisper.
"I don't have too long left darling. I just want you to be happy."
"Believe me I am." I say. I make my way out of grandfathers arms and everyone starts talking to each other again. Still stunned, I walk over to Daniel. He puts a hand on the small of my back. We walk outside where nobody is.
"You're so beautiful." He says. I smile shyly. "But you're a little more pale then usual." I laugh a little.
"Still stunned."
"I bet you are. It's a nice one. Expensive, too."
"Yeah. You know, when grandfather and I were hugging, he told me he didn't have many years left."
"Well, it's the circle of life." He says, and makes circular motions with his hands.
"You're hilarious," I say, "but seriously."
"He'll be just fine. I promise." He kisses me again and takes my hand. We sit down and talk for a bit. It's nice to be away from all the commotion. My aunt Kathy comes outside.
"Well, well, well! There you are, miss! People are looking for you in there! Scoot, scoot!" I stand up and find my way to the door. I walk inside and see my aunt Susan rushing towards me.
"Are you alright darling?"
"Yes, fine. I had a slight headache, so I decided to step out for a bit." I lie.
"Is it cleared up?"
"Yes."
"Perfect!" We have a surprise for you!"
"Okay." I turn to see Daniel leaning in the doorway. We walk over to a table, where a black box is.
"What's this?" I ask.
"Open it!" My uncle Brady calls. I take off the top. Inside is something shiny. I pick it up to see that it's a chrome microphone.
"It's beautiful, thank you."
"Well that's not all darling," Grandmother says, "we want you to sing for us, dear."
"You're kidding, right?"
"Why would we kid?" Mother asks, "you have a beautiful voice."
"Oh, thank you, umm, okay, uh, let me go upstairs and get my gui-."
"That's the other thing." I see my Uncle Tom carrying out a beautiful six string. It's not mine, another gift.
"Surprise." He smiles and hands me the guitar and a pick.
"You've got to be kidding me." I say, smiling. "Thank you so much!"
"Get on with it! Sing already!" Grandfather calls, and I take the mic and guitar to the centre of the living room, I do a few strums on my guitar. It's perfectly tuned. I place my hands in my right spots and start strumming. It feels like heaven when I sing. It feels like coming home. The intro approaches and I open my mouth and take a deep breath. Perfect, by Hedley.
Falling a thousand feet per second,
You still take me by surprise,
I just know it can't be over,
I can see it in your eyes.
Making every kind of silence,
It takes a lot to realize,
It's worse it finish then to start all over and,
Never let it lie.
And as long as I can feel you holding on,
I won't fall.
Even if you said I was wrong.
I'm not perfect,
But I keep trying.
Cause that's what I said I would do, from the start
I'm not, alive if I'm lonely,
So, please, don't leave,
Is it something I said, or just my personality?
I keep singing, and it just feels right. When the sing ends, I get a standing ovation, which I don't really need. Although It makes me smile. I then remember Daniel. I remember him standing in the doorway. I look, he's not there. I go outside, not there either. Where the heck did he go? I check upstairs, downstairs, but he's nowhere. I feel my phone vibrate in my shorts pocket. I pull it out. It's a text. From Daniel.
You have an amazing voice
I smile, and type a reply.
Thanks, where are you?
I went home.
Why? :(
It's nothing.
Are you sure?
Can you come over tomorrow?
Yes :)
Okay, see you then~bye
Bye.
That's strange. He wouldn't have left without telling me.
I hear my phone vibrate again. Sophie. She had to leave early. But Daniel didn't.
What did you do?
