Chapter 19

I stare in shock at what I'm seeing. Daniel puts his hands in his pockets and shyly looks down at the floor.
"Jade, uh, if you don't mind, I'd like to write a song together, if you want."
"Of course!" I exclaim. I can't believe this. "This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me."
"Really?"
"Yes." I wrap him up in a hug and kiss him. "Thank you." I whisper in his ear.
"I love you, Jade."
"I love you too."
We decide on a beat and rhythm, and start writing our lyrics. When those are finished, we decide who sings what. We enter the recording studio, play the track and start singing.

It's a pretty long song, the ideas just kept flowing out of us. Our voices collide so well. We make an amazing team.
"You're such an amazing singer, I don't know why you didn't make it in the first time." Daniel says, out of breath. I frown, remembering the denial.
"Well, I was crying during the video, because just hours earlier, I found out my brother was brutally murdered, so maybe that's why I didn't get in."
"True."
After laying down the track, adding in the music and everything, we get it on 2 CDs, and leave.
"I had an amazing day today, thank you."
"No problem."

I wake up to my alarm clock. Why is it on? Mom comes in. She shakes me, hard, and I sit up so she'll stop.
"We're going to see grandmother and grandfather today!"
"Since when?"
"Since yesterday, when I forgot to tell you,"she shrugs her shoulders, "get dressed." With that, she leaves the room. I put on a blue summer dress, my silver necklace, and curl my hair. I put on my makeup and go downstairs. I grab an apple, throw on my white flats and meet mom in the car.
"Why are we going there?" I ask her.
"To get your car, of course."
"Right, right." I remember seeing the car for the first time. I can't wait to see it in person. We arrive about 10 minutes later and I get out of car. I make my way to the front door and knock, assuming I need to get the keys. Grandmother answers, and let's us in without saying a word. She calls grandfather and he walks in slowly. Their house needs renovations. It's old, less than ideal. Grandfather takes a set of keys off a hook and hands them to me.
"Thank you," I say, "a lot."
"No problem, wonderful." He says, quietly. He's still in his pyjamas, wearing a silly, old night cap.
"Well, well, we better get going, Jade, I'll meet you at home! Nice seeing you two, mom, dad, goodbye now!" Mom babbles.
"Bye, and thank you."
"Bye sweetheart." Grandmother says.
"Bye." Grandfather says.
I walk outside and unlock my new car. It's beautiful. I stick my key in the ignition and pull out. I drive behind mom all the way home. I don't go home though. For some reason, I find myself going to Daniel's. I text for him to come outside, and he does. When I see him, his mouth is open in shock. He opens the passenger door and gets inside.
"This is nice." He says.
"Wait for it..." I press a button and the roof slowly comes down.
"Oh my God. I totally forgot it was a convertible."
"Yeah."
"So what's up?"
"I'm taking you out." I blurt.
"Really?"
"Yes." I say shyly. "I have an idea."
"Where to?"
"Well since it's Saturday, I thought we would go to where we went on our first date, because our first date was on a Saturday."
"The beach?"
"The beach."
"That's so sweet of you." Daniel says, hysterically.
"Very funny." I say. And re-start the car.
We drive in silence until we get to the beach.
"Why didn't you decide to do this next Saturday?" Daniel asks.
"Because we're in school next Saturday, remember?"
"Right. School." We laugh together. I suddenly realize how lucky I am to be going to the same school as my boyfriend. We want the same things. Together, we're like a universe. And I'm so grateful for this little universe we have together. "Jade? You okay?" I look up to see that I'm not driving.
"What? Yeah, sorry."
"What happened?"
"Just, lost In thought."
"Okay." Daniel says, and smiles his crooked grin.
We arrive at the beach, and Daniel says:
"I'm in love you, Jade Bailey."
