"Be careful what you wish for," my mother told me as she put a piece of my wavy black hair behind my ear. She gently took her thumb, pulled her sleeve over it and lifted it up to my face where she wiped away the tears falling from my brown eyes.
"I will mom."

I let the thin dirty orange and white stick of poison basically dangle between my two fingers. I brought it up to my lips, inhaled, and then brought it back down. Repeating this cycle until it got shorter and shorter to where I just tossed it on the ground and squished it with my shoe. I leaned my elbows on the concrete ledge and took off my sunglasses, admiring the city I was currently in, Las Vegas.
My tan cardigan was hanging off my shoulder, exposing my tattoo on my left arm. I looked down at it, I should get another one soon, I thought to myself. I pulled my clothing back up and sighed. Time to get back to work I guess. I took out my lanyard that had all my keys on it and scanned the little machine near the door so I can get off the roof of this hotel. It's sunday, so I have to deal with everyone who's hungover in this building and wants coffee. I put back on my name tag, and went back behind the little counter of the coffee shop I work at. Tyler came over and ran a hand through his hair.
"Hey Jae," He said sitting on the counter in front of me. "You must be having a nice morning, you smell like smoke," I could practically smell the sarcasm in the air.
I smiled a little bit, Tyler has become one of my best friends here. I'm 19 and live in Las Vegas, making friends wasn't that hard it was just difficult to find one that's always here. Usually people are on vacation and leave within a week or so. Tyler also lives here and since we work together we've just grown close.
"Eh, could be better, could be worse. I just don't like Sunday's. We have to deal with everyone who was drunk last night and is grumpy because they're going home," I shrugged.
"True, it's been pretty quiet so far though," he began to swing his feet a little bit.
"Thank god."
I looked around the lobby, there wasn't a lot of people checking out, a few checking in, not much though. I could see my mom at the front desk working with some people. "Hey Jae? Do you mind if I just go up to my room real quick to grab my phone charger?" Tyler said getting my attention.
"Go for it, but if we get swamped as soon as you leave I'm going to break your phone charger."
"Deal accepted," Tyler quickly hoped off the counter and walked away in the opposite direction. I sighed and began to play on my phone until somebody cleared there throat in front of me.
"Hi, how can I help you?" I said with a light smile, trying to be as peppy as I can at nine in the morning. I looked up to see Ashton Irwin? Wasn't really expecting that but honestly I've never really bothered to listen to 5 Seconds Of Summer other then what I've head on the radio so I wasn't starstruck, but hey this could be a cool story to tell.
"Hi, can I just have one medium coffee, light and sweet?" He started getting out his wallet.
"Yup," I turned grapped a cup, and mixed it together for him. When I finished I turned back around to see yet another member of the band with him. This time it was Michael...? I don't really remember his last name. Ashton handed me the money.
"Keep the change," he said taking his coffee and giving me a toothy smile, honestly that brightened up my day. Now it was just Michael and I.
"Can I help you?" I repeated.
"Um, do you have mint hot chocolate by any chance?" He said looked at the menu above me.
"We do, is that what you'll be getting?"
"Yes, small please," Michael smiled. I nodded and began to make it. As I was Michael started to make conversation. "Do you have to work here everyday?" He asked.
"From six am to three pm yes but I get Friday's and Saturdays off," I handed him his drink.
"Damn, you must be morning person then," he gave a small laugh.
"Oh, no not at all," I continued the conversation as Michael paid.
"Well I'm here for a week so you'll probably see a lot more of me and I hope to see a lot more of you," Michael said and then took a sip of his hot chocolate. To be honest, I did hope I saw more of Michael. "See you around...?" Michael began looking at my nametag but instead I blurted out my name.
"Jaesey."
"See you around Jaesey," Michael fixed his bag on his shoulder and then headed off towards the elevators where he casually passed Tyler. Tyler did a double take of Michael walking away, looked at me and then ran at me.
"I leave for fucking ten minutes and you meet a fourth of 5 Seconds Of Summer?" He whisper yelled at me.
"Actually it was half, Ashton was here too," I laughed.
"Why didn't you call me?" Tyler argued.
"What you want me to stop helping the costumer to make them wait so you can come down here?" I said rolling my eyes a little at him.
"Yes."
