Athy groaned as she read the number on her thermometer. 38.2℃. Diana hurried into her room, carrying some water and a cold towel. Folding and placing the towel on her daughter's forehead, she turned to her.

"Athy; are you all right?" Seizing the thermometer, she gasped lightly. "Oh, god- no, you're definitely not going anywhere for the next two days." Claude strode in and held up his phone.

"I've called Lucas to come and look after you since we have to head to work now. Call me the second you feel worse, ok?" Athy smiled relieved. She wouldn't be bored to death the whole day, then. Lucas always managed to make her smile.

"Ok, dad! Have a good day," she closed her eyes, feeling her mother's cold hand brush against the side of her face.

"Take care, Athy."

----------------------

Lucas raised his eyebrows as his phone pinged.

Overprotective Father

8:23am

I need you to come over and take care of Athy.

She's sick and I have urgent business at work.

Lucas's face creased into a concerned expression.

8:24am

I'll be right there.

Pocketing his phone, he threw on his coat, grabbed some money and a book. He would buy Athy some food- wait. Sick people weren't supposed to be eating sweets or anything like that. Oh well, he was sure he could find some food that Athy was allowed to eat. Strolling into the nearby convenience store, he walked along the aisles and took a few items off the shelves.

-----------------

It had been ten minutes since her parents had left Athy, and she was about to scream of boredom when Lucas walked in, two bags in each hand. She immediately perked up.

"Lucas! You took your time." He rolled his eyes and placed the bags on the ground next to her.

"Excuse me, I had to go the store and buy you all of this."

"Really? What did you get?"

Lucas crossed his arms. It was unusual to see his normally strong girlfriend in bed.

"First, I'm going to move you." Ignoring Athy's screams of protest, he carried her onto the sofa in front of the family TV.

"Don't scream. It'll only hurt your throat more," he said calmly while passing her a glass of water which she took gladly. Untieng the knots he had made around the bags, he pulled out some chicken soup.

"Seriously? Chicken soup?" Athy sounded incredulous.

"It's decent and digestible for sick people like you. And don't talk." Athy pouted and slumped down against the seat. Giving her the bowl of soup, Lucas left for the kitchen.

"Don't force yourself to drink it. I'm going to make some tea."

"You know how to brew tea? Also can you make the lippe tea that my mother loves?"

Lucas frowned.

"Absolutely not. There are certain types of tea that you can only drink when you're ill."

He came back a few minutes later carrying a tea tray.

"What type of tea is it?"

"This is herbal tea made with honey," Lucas replied, sitting down next to Athanasia.

"Last time I remembered, we didn't have any herbal tea. Don't sit next to me, you might catch my cold."

Lucas brushed it off.

"I bought a few packets from the store. Don't worry, I won't."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I just know."

Athy sighed in exasperation, wondering why she was even dating this blockhead, and picked up the tea cup. Taking a small sip from the cup, she smiled.

"It tastes good."

"Don't forget the chicken soup," was the only reply she got. Setting down her tea, she picked up the bowl of soup, eyeing it suspiciously.

"Do you think I poisoned it?" Athy nearly dropped it in surprise.

"No, of course not. I've just never had chicken soup before."

"My aunt would always bring me chicken soup when I was sick."

"Wow, Lucas got sick once?" Lucas scowled.

"Not every human is physically invincible. Including me."

Bringing the spoon to her lips, Athy tasted it.

"How is it?" She hesitated before answering.

"It's better than I expected."

Lucas threw a banket over her.

"Good."

Athy leaned against Lucas, feeling the soft tickle of his hair against her cheek, and closed her eyes. Noticing, he brought her closer and whispered, "Go to sleep. It's the best thing you can do when you're ill." No response. Lucas looked beside him to see  her already drifting off to sleep. Resting his head on top of hers, he also closed his glittering dark eyes, willing himself to fall asleep.

-----------------------------

Athy's eyes slowly fluttered open. Yawning, she stretched her arms and sighed, closing her eyes once again. When she finally had the energy to get up, she looked around for Lucas.

"What are you doing, out of the sofa?"

"Well, as you can clearly see, I have woken up."

"I chopped up some fruits for you. Eat."

"Do I have to?"

"Do you hate fruits that much?"

Athy shook her head. "I just don't have the appetite."

"I'll get some coconut water."

"Coconut water??"

"It helps."

"It makes me wonder how much the author researched on foods that you can eat when you're sick."

Finishing the glass of coconut water, Athy delicately picked up a strawberry and chewed on it thoughtfully.

"How long was I asleep for? What time is it?"

Lucas checked his watch.

"I came here at around ten to eight, now it's three in the afternoon, so I think you slept for around six and a half hours."

"Oh. Were you awake the whole time?"

"Nah, I feel asleep as well. I woke up an hour ago, though."

"Do you feel any better?"

"Mhmm."

"Great," he said, gently lifting up her hand and placing a quick kiss on her palm.

"Feel lucky my father isn't here. He'd kill you for that," Athy joked as Lucas's phone rang.

"Speak of the devil. He's on the train home," Lucas muttered under his breath.

"I'd best be going then. Finish.the.food."

Athy giggled. "Why?"

"Because I spent so much time and effort into cutting them."

"I guess that's a reasonable answer."

Putting on his sneakers, he turned around.

"Get better soon, Athy. You still owe me a date at the theme park this weekend."
