The sunlight streamed through the glass-paned windows, and Athy turned to face her husband, smiling softly. Reaching out, she gently placed a hand on his shoulder and shook him gently.

"Love, wake up," she whispered in his ear as Lucas sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes. Catching sight of Athy, he fell back down on his pillow with a slight "thump."

"Hey."

"Hey."

The two both giggled slightly, a strange but comforting awkwardness settling between them. Looking for a way to dispel the silence, Lucas entwined their two hands together and shifted slightly to look at her.

"Is anything wrong? You're usually up and getting ready for work by this time," he said as his eyebrows turned in with worry. Athanasia gripped his hand tighter and shook her head slightly.

"Not really....I called in sick today.."

Lucas's eyes widened with surprise.

"Oh? You are calling in sick for work? What a shocker."

"Please," she replayed, smacking him on his shoulder with her free hand.

"I...wanted to tell you something..."

Worry filled Lucas's mind; but, reassured by the fact that Athy would never tell him something bad while still in bed, he nodded and asked what it was. His wife stayed silent for a long time after that, and he could tell that she was trying to gather the right words. Rubbing circles against the top of her hand with his thumb, he smiled reassuringly.

"Take your time, you know you can tell me anything, right?"

Athy gave him a tight, obviously forced smile.

"Of course I know."

A few more minutes led on, but they felt like an eternity to Lucas until finally, Athy loosened her grip on his hand and said, "I took a pregnancy test last week."

Lucas inhaled deeply. Both of them hadn't really considered having children before, what with Lucas's parents abandoning him as a child and Athy having never felt a mothers love before due to her own dying soon after giving birth. Still, he forced himself to be supportive and managed to say, "Oh? What were the results?"

Athanasia's reply came back barely above a soft whisper.

"Positive."

Both of them remained quiet for a long time, before Lucas asked, "How far along are you?"

"...two months-"

The edges of his mouth fell down just slightly.

"You took the test a week ago and you didn't think to tell me earlier?"

Of course, Lucas knows he shouldn't be getting so fired up about this; it's Athy's own decision, not his. Yet, he still feels defensive about her not telling him the moment she found out.

"I know how you feel about having a child Lucas, do you really think I would have told you?"

He spluttered slightly, quickly firing back, "But I thought we agreed not to keep any more secrets from eachother when we got married, Athy."

She sat up, glaring at him.

"It wasn't a secret, and I did tell you, why are you getting so angry??!"

At a loss for words, Lucas rubbed his face and sighed loudly.

"I- I never said anything about not wanting a child, I just thought-"

"Thought what??"

"I grew up in an orphanage for half of my childhood, for god's sake! I don't know how to care for a child! You're the only person in my life who I've been able to genuinely love and if we're having a child I don't want to mess this up!"

Athy blinked a few timed before leaning down and held Lucas's face in her hands.

"Lucas, you will NEVER have to feel like you will be a bad father; I have spent ten years with you and you are a lot of things but a bad person IS NOT one of them, and I know that you will care for our child perfectly fine- do not let something that your parents did prevent you from living a happy life!"

Lucas's crimson eyes shined with emotion as he pushed himself up and kissed her; it was short and quick, but the kiss promised so much more- a promise for a new beginning- and he murmured against her lips, "I love you."

Athy smiled and lay down beside him.

"I'm booking an ultrasound for next week," Lucas whispered, still half asleep.

"If it's a girl, we're naming her Attheia."

Lucas didn't dare to argue with Athanasia.
