Another couple weeks passed. Mom's stomach was getting prominent now. I still had made no progress in talking. Now Mom was starting to pack my bags for the center. I was getting worried.
I started listening carefully to Macy at my speech therapy appointments, doing exactly what she said to do. When summer arrived, I had to say goodbye to Bella, who was going on summer vacation with her family.
Then came the day I was meant to leave to the center.
"You ready, pumpkin?" Dad whispered.
I took a deep breath. I thought of my new sibling, of talking to him or her. I thought of Bella, begging me to talk. I thought of me.
"No, I'm not ready," I finally said.
Dad laughed, crying tears of joy. He picked me up, swinging me in his arms. Mom was smiling and crying, too.
"I'm so proud of you, Megan flower!"She cried.
Now I felt happy, too. Those words had felt right. If you have words to say, then say them. That's what they're meant for. I did.
