Chapter 14

*Lorraine* I hear Derrick call at the other end of the phone
My heart beat skips at the sound of my name from him *yes* I reply

*I've been worried Lorraine, I want to see you. It's torture not seeing your face* he says with a sigh

My hold on Carmela becomes more firm. I lower my head with my eyes tightly shut, the phone still placed on my ear. It hurts to hear him sound so devastated, I want to see him too. I open my eyes, Leigh carries Carmela from me going out of my room

*I want you to go somewhere with me* he says

*I'm not going* I reply firmly

*You're my personal assistant, remember*

*I quit* I deadpan *I don't want to talk to you* I say hanging up on him

I close my eyes, I can't talk to him...I can't. I should take some fresh air before packing. I'm moving in with Leigh Anne and her mom, her mom suggested it. I wouldn't want to be a bother to them but her mom won't listen to me.

I heave a deep sigh when I get to the clearance. I'm at the place Derrick took me to on the night of Sonia's welcome party, I don't know I just found myself taking this path. I smile when I smell the sweet scent of the place

"I didn't know you'd come here" I hear a familiar voice say, I open my eyes to see Derrick

"I...I didn't know you'd be here" I stutter visibly surprised. I know this is his place but I least expect him to be here, he should be preparing for his upcoming marriage.

He smirks but it's doesn't have the normal energy his signature smirk usually have.

I walk to where he's seated and I sit beside him.

He takes my hands in his looking at me intensely "I missed you and I don't know what I'd do without you"

I wish I could tell him I feel the same way but I'm leaving soon so there's no use.

"You should concentrate on your wed..."

"Just tell me you love me back and stop thinking of that" he interrupts

I look into his eyes that I want to only look at me. I move my face close to him giving him a peck on his lips

"I love you too I really do and I have something else to say to you but..." I'm interrupted by my vibrating phone.

I check it to see it's Leigh. "Excuse me" I say picking the call, I place it on my ear

*Lorri, I need you to come to city hospital urgently* Leigh says in a hurry

*why?*

*it's Carmela, make it snappy Lorri* I drop my phone trying to catch my breath. Carmela, what's wrong with her what happened to her.

"Lorraine what's wrong" Derrick demands looking at me with worry

I can't seem to put my mind in the right place all I know is I mustn't loose my daughter.

"City hospital, fast Derrick I need to get to City hospital now" I say breathing heavily

I rush into the hospital, I run towards Leigh Anne and the doctor beside her

"Where's Carmela what happened to her" I demand holding Leigh's hands

"Are you the child's guardian?" I hear the doctor ask

I turn to him. "Her mom" by this time Derrick has gotten to us and heard me

"Okay we've done necessary treatments and what's left is blood that matches hers, we need to transfer blood to her" the doctor states "follow me to my office" he says

I follow him, I just want to see my daughter, she must stay safe.  I give the doctor my hand to draw the blood he wants to test it. I sit quietly waiting for the result I also think of Derrick who already heard I have a daughter.

"Ma'am your blood doesn't match hers and we need to hurry or we'd loose her" the doctor states

"I'm her mother why doesn't it match" I demand

"Her father's own would work since yours didn't, you need to bring her father now"

Her father....Derrick. I didn't want him knowing like this but I need to hurry. I rush outside to see Derrick sitting opposite Leigh

I grab his arm "Carmela needs your blood please"

"Mine? I thought it should be her parent's own" he says standing up. He enters inside and I settle beside Leigh

"I guess this is it, he'd find out now" Leigh says

I nod resting my head on her shoulder. This is it, how do I start explaining when he comes out.

It's about time Derrick knew he has a daughter, Lorraine can't just leave town without telling him.
