Chapter 19 - They are a lot alike
Yes, our divorce is already halfway completed."
"Who is Ashley Summer? Are you cheating?" someone yelled.
"I did not cheat in my marriage. The divorce is mutual, and I will be reuniting with my first love." Sean ignored other questions and went to help Advin leave the stage.
Gio Aiolos had been completely forgotten by the crowd.
Some guessed that Ashley Summer was related to Advin Summer, hence why Sean was helping Mr. Summer and even went as far as to personally hold his arm to assist him in walking. They had never seen Sean act that way with anyone, not even the famed chefs.
Ashley stared at the screen without really seeing it, barely feeling the tears rolling down her cheeks. Her mind was full of Sean's confession, and her heart could barely contain her happiness mixed with sadness.
With his public confession, she knew he was serious about them getting back together. He also admitted that he was already in the middle of divorcing his wife.
He was clear on what he wanted and was relentlessly pursuing it.
But Ashley Summer did not know what she wanted. Her heart yearned for the romance she had once experienced with Sean, but she was also afraid of the detachment she had gotten from him. Her mind said she would be a fool to accept Sean again, especially when he had refused to tell her the truth.
"We... could never be together..." Not until he finally came clean to her.
But would she accept him once he did? She was also hiding something from him that she was not sure if she could tell him.
Her heart and mind were in conflict with each other.
Ashley clutched her aching heart and turned off the TV. Like a lost soul, she sat before the dark TV screen dazedly for the rest of the night.
"They should have bothered Gio instead of you. He's the one at fault," Ashton grumbled tiredly as the restaurant's phone had been ringing almost non-stop. It was now off-hours, yet people were still calling in.
Ashley had underestimated people's desire to uncover Sean's love story and how quickly they found out about her.
Their restaurant's phone number was easy to find as it was listed on the internet. The good news from this unwanted publicity was that their diner received a large number of customers.
Unfortunately, they could not ignore the phone calls and had to entertain busybodies or the media that slipped between the regular customers' calls. It was still manageable, as long as those people did not go to her apartment to bother her.
"I heard he had fled the country," Acorn, one of the kitchen helpers, joined in to gossip.
"I couldn't care less where he went," Ashely sneered and cut off the call from the media again. Deciding that since it was their off-hours, she turned off the phone line and sighed in bliss. Sooner or later, the sound of the phone ringing was going to make her develop PTSD.
She had been manning the telephone since morning and did not have much time to do her own work. The new influx of customers was good news, but they still needed to find a new supplier to supply ingredients for the increased demand. They had to push away a good number of customers because of the shortage, and they could not go on like this.
