Chapter 25 - Give us another chance

When no one spoke, Ashley cleared her throat and joked, "Kyle, you failed to mention you are dating my brother."

Kyle grimaced apologetically. "Sorry, but our relationship was asked to be kept a secret."

"By who?"

"Me," Ashton admitted. "Who wouldn't, when their parents so strongly disapprove of it?"

"Of course I would disapprove of this!" Mrs. Summer yelled, "My son is- is-"

"Gay? Like men?" Ashton said helpfully, and Mr. Summer gave him a glare, warning him to stop agitating Mrs. Summer.

"You must have been brainwashed by him," Mrs. Summer stared at Kyle in disgust.

"I have never been brainwashed by anyone! Can't you accept me for who I am?" Ashton yelled angrily, his eyes were pleading for his mother to understand him.

"Both of you are men!" Mrs. Summer wailed, looking near tears. "It's a sin!"

"Martha," Sean said softly. "At least Ashton is not into drugs or any illegal activities. It is a shocking thing to know your son isn't as perfect as you wanted him to be, but don't you at least want your son to be happy?"

"How can he be happy? How could that man promise he would be with Ashton forever? Not even a normal couple could promise so!"

Mrs. Summer had tried to accept it and even calmed down enough to let her son introduce them to the man he loved at an appointed date. But Ashton suddenly introduced his beau without warning, and whatever self-consultation she worked on herself became a waste.

Ashton asked harshly, "Then how can you be happy with dad when you doubt that? Constantly waiting and seeing if dad would dump you one day?"

Mrs. Summer inhaled sharply. Mr. Summer shot his son a deadly look. "Ashton! Be careful of what you say!"

"Then what am I supposed to think from what she said?" Ashton refused to back down and ignored Kyle, who was trying to stop him. "What would you do if grandpa and grandma refused to let both of you be together?"

"That's different!" Mrs. Summer snapped in tears. "Our situation could never be compared!"

"How can love be compared?!" Ashton yelled.

Kyle finally succeeded in pulling Ashton back and turned to face Mrs. Summer properly.

"Ms. Summer. I know you won't agree to this, but I'm serious about Ashton. For five years, we tried to part ways, but we failed because we could not let go. Since we could not break away from the relationship, we decided to make it work. I promise I will treat Ashton well, and you won't regret letting us be together," Kyle said without an ounce of exaggeration from his promise.

Perhaps because Kyle looked so serious and sincere, Mrs. Summer finally regained most of her composure. She turned to Ashton with a stern face. "You really love this man?"

Without hesitation, Ashton said, "Yes. I love him."

"What would you do if I still disapprove of you dating him?" Mrs. Summer asked coolly.

"Then I will do everything to change your mind about us. I will never stop until you give us your blessing. Even if you disown me, I won't change my mind."

For five years, Ashton had tried to ignore his true sexuality and choose his family over love. But a human could only be strong for a short period, and Ashton grew exhausted from denying what he really wanted. It was especially tough when Kyle returned his feelings and chased after him hard.
