Eren anchored his line into the Colossal Titan's arm and rushed towards its nape. The beast responsible for his mother's death and the fall of Wall Maria had taken out the wall's artillery and destroyed its gate, leading Eren to a terrifying realization as well as a confirmation of his fears; it was intelligent. He sank another line further up its body. But this is my chance! he thought This is the only one that can break through the walls! If I can just kill it! Eren zipped around behind it as the Colossal tried to turn to intercept him. Too slow! He launched his line one final time into the flesh on its neck. He wouldn't let what happened to him happen to anyone else. Shinganshina would be the last. I CAN DO THIS!!! his gear and festering hatred propelled him to his target. HE'S DEAD!!! Eren's blades severed the air that stood between them and the lethal blow.

The moment he pierced flesh, steam erupted from the giant's vulnerable point and blasted Eren back, but the Trainee never released his line. Eren refused to give up in spite of the scalding vapors. He closed his eyes and steeled himself before letting humanity's rage launch him back into the monster. "GO!!!" he screamed and slashed again... into an empty cloud of mist. Did I miss? he wondered and secured himself to the wall. Then he saw the footprints. No. He vanished!

"Eren!" Thomas called out to him. "Did you kill it!?"

"No!" Eren's anger turned into panic. "It's just like five years ago! He appeared out of nowhere and vanished just as suddenly!" Eren returned to the top of the wall and apologized for not being able to stop it.

"What are you apologizing for? We couldn't even move," Thomas tried to ease his worries.

"Hey, this isn't the time to chat!" Connie reprimanded them. "The wall's been breached! If we don't patch it fast, we'll get another titan incursion!" Eren looked over Trost knowing exactly what was at stake when he heard more ODM gear zipping towards them, announcing the arrival of two Garrison soldiers accompanied by Boost and Watcher.

"What are you Trainees doing!?" one of the Garrison soldiers demanded. "The contingency plan for dealing with the Colossal Titan is already in motion! Report to your posts on the double! And if any of you made contact with it, don't forget to report it!"

"Yes sir!" the Trainees pledged.

"Best of luck to the Advance Team!" Connie said.

"Hey!" Watcher halted their departure. "It's alright to be afraid. That's good. Use it to stay alive. When you're done with that, burn it. Burn it and turn that fear to anger."

"This is it, kids," Boost turned to leave. "Time to earn your wings." Eren appreciated the clone's advice to them. His mind went back to that day five years ago and instantly used his fear to fuel his ire.

"I thought Weilman wanted you in the rearguard," Captain Tanner looked back to the clones as the rest of the Garrison forces set up the cannons lower down the wall.

"What's the point in having us involved in the operation if you're not going to use our experience?" Boost asked, he and his brother unfolding the stocks on their rifles and taking up sniping positions.

"I'm glad you're here, but he may not be too happy about it," the Garrison Captain commented.

"He can court martial us later," Boost gave his temporary commanding officer a thumbs up. At the drop of the Captain's hand, all six cannons fired into the four titans, each one over 10-meters each. The grapeshot shredded through the goliaths and the Garrison troops at the top of the wall roared a fierce battle cry into the open area.
