One week after their arrival, the clones were finally introduced to the general public in Shinganshina with the bold truth of their arrival from beyond their world being shared with the populace as well. Many met the news and strangers with total shock, but didn't wish to ask too much for fear that they'd encounter the same fate as those who did.

The Wall priests, of course, didn't care for the presence of the troops and viewed their very existence as heresy to their teachings. As a result, they stirred up their followers and the paranoid individuals of Shinganshina to harass them, but none were so bold as to incite violence against them. As for the vehicle crews, they worked out an agreement as to how they could work together and, despite the protests of certain officers and even a few of the clones themselves, Commander Kieth Shadis planned to have them accompany the Scouting Legion on their next expedition in only a few days.

Some exceptionally curious ones, however, displayed genuine kindness towards their visitors. Little did the soldiers sent there realize just what exactly it was that lay ahead for them.

"Take that, you stupid heretic!" a ruddy boy with freckles teased as he and two of his friends kicked an already defeated Armin Arlert. The blonde boy was, as usual, only minding his business and reading his book about the world outside the walls.

That's the price of knowledge I suppose he thought to himself and accepted the beating.

"Yeah, stupid!" another child spat on him. "What are you gonna do? There's no way Eren and Mikasa can get to you." Armin felt a foot land directly into his stomach and forced him to cough, opening him up to a boot to his face.

"What's going on over here?" an adult man's voice cut through the sadistic laughter. The bullies halted their assault briefly to turn to the source of the voice. Armin peeked between their legs and saw one of the clones, one with blue markings, racing towards them. The children held their ground and formed a human barrier in front of their prey.

"What do you want, outsider?" the ruddy boy demanded.

"You boys leave him be," the clone loomed over the children. The details on his faceplate were now clearer and Armin could make out black teeth-like markings amongst the blue in the indented parts of his helmet.

"Pastor Olsen says we don't need to listen to you," the pack's ringleader said smugly but still took a step back. Armin now had his forearms under him and could feel his upper lip and his nose throbbing.

"Did he now?" the clone stepped closer and brought his face closer to the bunch as they shuffled backwards, their confidence completely gone at this point. "Well, I'd be willing to bet that your parents won't be too happy to find you unconscious on their doorsteps and Pastor Olsen wouldn't care in the slightest." He stood back at full height and emphasized his firearm.

"Y-y-you..." one of the bullies stammered.

The clone placed an assertive boot forward and ordered them, "Scram". Without missing a beat, the prepubescent delinquents scattered, leaving the two figures alone.

"Thank you, mister," Armin got to his knees but stumbled backwards and leaned against the side of a house. Once again, he couldn't do anything to help himself and had to rely on someone else to help him.

"Don't mention it, kiddo," the man leaned against the building and slumped down next to Armin.

"Why did you help me?" Armin asked and hugged his knees.

"Wasn't right for them to be kicking you while you were down and not putting up a fight. Unless you were talking major dwang about them, but you don't look like the type." Armin didn't know what to make of that statement but stopped thinking about it when he caught sight of his book in the stranger's hands. He apparently noticed him and offered it to him. "This yours?"
