"With respect, sir we won't be able to effectively help you if you don't let us know how you plan to fight those things," Deniye, the AT-TE's spotter and the crew's Major, jogged beside Commander Shadis.

"I've already explained that we aren't able to share any information along those lines with you," Kieth dismissed the man and continued walking, Erwin, Hange, and Mike close in tow.

"I understand that, sir. But if we don't know where you intend to hit those things with your box cutters, the chances of friendly fire are going to be incredibly high. And trust me when I tell you that you do NOT want to be on the receiving end of an MDA cannon," Deniye stepped in front of him. "Osik, even one of the regular turrets will make lightning blush."

"I've already explained to you..." Kieth began, raising his voice.

"COMMANDER! Bringing us along was YOUR idea! NOT ours!" Deniye snapped. "If you want to send your people at those titans, be my guest, but I will not be responsible for ending those lives."

Commander Shadis froze, his face conveying he wasn't expecting this from the man. "We can't tell you anything," Erwin spoke up. Deniye shifted to face him, but Erwin held up a hand to halt him. "But we could always show you. In the field tomorrow, have a pilot observe how we fight titans and have him convey it to you and your crew."

"That was our solution to the severe lack of information," Deniye admitted. "But you need to tell your people to watch it. Let them know that, when we drop, they clear out. You got that?"

"Absolutely," Kieth finally composed himself. "You won't have to worry about a thing."

"I sure hope not," Deniye nodded before departing with a two-fingered salute.

"Commander, perhaps it would be best not to bring them..." Hange began.

"No," Kieth stopped her. "We need to see what they're capable of."

"Oh, would you look at that," a civilian noted the Scouting Regiment leaving the walls. "They're going back out to feed the titans."

"And they're giving them the machines too," another added. "Tch. What a waste of taxpayer dollars."

"Feeding the titans?" Ec asked.

The first one noticed him and explained to him in a surprisingly respectful manner. "The Scouts always leave in huge numbers. They take their entire legion with them outside the safety of the walls. I'd guess there's close to a hundred each time, if I'm being generous. Maybe two dozen ever make it back."

Ec felt his jaw drop. "If the mortality rate is that high, then how do they keep getting so many people joining them?"

"Your guess is as good as mine," he shrugged. "Probably a bunch of young and dumb kids looking for glory."

"Osik," Ec muttered. And we're SUPPORTING these guys?

"That may be true," another clone walked up and squeezed Ec's shoulder. Ec jumped and saw that it was Az. "But I've got a pretty good feeling our boys in the machines'll keep em safe." The second civilian shook their head.

"I doubt it," they said. "But I'll take your word for it that the people inside the machines will make it back in one piece."

"See," Az slapped Ec's back. "We've got nothing to worry about." Ec began to relax before he heard in his helmet, "You've been broadcasting, ner' vod. Maybe want to fix that before you start chatting with the locals."

"...the heroes," a young boy's voice faintly registered over the comms.

"Sorry, fellas," Mar apologized. "Forgot my mic was open." Ec shook his head when Az didn't call out his brother like he'd done to him when something caught the corner of his eye. Keeping his head facing the crowd, Ec saw a figure in a black overcoat and matching bowler hat through the rear-facing camera in his helmet.
