Year 844
These are the notes of Squad Captain Hange Zoe.
Three days ago, we were visited by armored men who have identified themselves as "Clone Soldiers" of the "Grand Army of the Republic". These kind young men have offered their support in our efforts to combat, and more importantly, study the Titans. In addition, they have agreed to let me interview them. Although I would like to begin immediately, I have been ordered to wait until tomorrow.
Day 1
Today, I have interviewed 8 members of the 501st. Their names, in order of interview, were Jet, Ani, Range, Bryk, Ec, Nir, Goll, and Boost.
Jet:
When I questioned Jet regarding who held authority over the unit, he revealed to me that he was the one in charge of the 501st members present. However, he said there were plenty of other Captains and Commanders above him and "the rest of the Legion". Curiously, when asked why only 20 soldiers (not including those who pilot the vehicles) were sent to aid us, he would either attempt to dodge the question or simply replied "this is all they could spare". Finally, I couldn't help but notice that he possessed a silver tube on his belt. I assumed that it was a symbol of leadership as only he and one member of the 212th had one, but he shook his head when I proposed that theory to him. He told me that it belonged to his former General and became visibly downhearted. I conveyed my condolences and ended the interview.
Ani:
Ani was incredibly enthusiastic from the second he entered the room. He seemed to answer every question I asked him with high enough positivity to make me smile genuinely with him, but responded the same way Jet had to the questions regarding their numbers (each clone today answered similarly). He told me that they were grown, born, and trained on a planet called "Kamino". I proceeded to ask him a multitude of questions regarding places outside of our world, but Commander Shadis prevented him from answering and told me to stay on topic. How annoying. I also asked him about why Geist shot him, to which he replied by saying "He's just jealous of my wit." Other than his high enthusiasm, there was nothing else of note.
My interviews with the other six were rather the same as the others with nothing new to report.
Day 2
I have concluded my interviews with the 501st members and, in a bout of residual enthusiasm from Ani, accidentally finished interviewing the 212th members as well.
Geist:
I was particularly excited to question this one and immediately asked him about his difference with Ani. To my delight (and dismay), he told me that he just gets on his nerves. I also took note that he was the only other clone with a silver cylinder on their belt aside from Jet and asked him the same question I did his 501st counterpart. Apparently, it also belonged to his previous commanding officer, but he didn't seem as downhearted as Jet in his response.
Spectre:
The only portion of note that I took away from Spectre is the reason he gave for most of their names, which was that a majority of them were members of (I would assume) a subsection of the 212th known as "Ghost Company".
Day 3:
My interviews with the pilots and gunners were brief. They informed me that their "Tank" (they call it an AT-TE) could double as a troop transport and that their aircraft (LAAT) could deliver troops and devastating amounts of firepower and air support.
Other notes:
Banshee, Fel, and Der told me that Geist and Spectre have served with each other longer than they had with the rest of their squad and thus tend to behave like "an old married couple".
Each of the soldiers unanimously stated that Gel (the pilot of the LAAT) gets furious if so much as a scratch gets on his craft as a result of pointless squabbles.
Ner, Shutz, Blok, Watcher, and Mar seemed to slip when I questioned them about the fates of Jet and Geist's previous commanding officers and mentioned something about "The Order" being given. However, as soon as they realized what they had said, they immediately shut down in regards to that topic. I pray that this "Order" does not affect us negatively.
Just to be sure, we decided to ask a few of them if they knew about Levi and his friends. As to be expected, none of them had the faintest clue as to the identities of the individuals in question.
For the most part, they seemed very open and would only hide behind the phrase "I'm not authorized to say/know" when I asked about places beyond our world.
It should be worth mentioning that the first question I asked each one of them had the exact same, almost rehearsed, reply. I asked them if there were any other humans outside of the walls, to which they replied "You're the only ones we've seen so far." I'm not terribly sure what to make of this, but I do find it a bit troubling. We are right not to trust them, but it is wise to not push them away and to further our relationship with them.
This is the end of my report.
Signed,
Squad Captain Hange Zoe of the Survey Corps
