Katherine sat at her desk on Monday just after lunch. She picked up her phone when she heard it ding. <I heard you met my friend Chris>
She laughed, seeing the message from Tara. <I did. Thanks for the warning. Never once thought it was necessary to tell me your friend "Chris" was Chris Evans.>
<Yeah I know. I'm sorry. I don't tell anyone>
<Don't worry about it. He told me why. I understand>
<He likes you Kate. A lot>
Katherine shook her head at Tara's message. <Somehow I doubt that>
<I'm serious. He wanted to ask you out but wasn't sure you'd say yes>
That must have been why he hesitated. She laughed, realizing what was happening. <Oh. I see what this is. You can tell him that he has my number, and can call or message me himself. Not send his friend to ask me if I like him as if we're in 7th grade.>
<Fair enough. I will. LOL>
Katherine shook her head, putting her phone in her desk. If he liked her so much why was he sending Tara in? If he was sure how he felt then he should be able to contact her himself. She was a little annoyed but couldn't deny that she thought it was kind of cute too; him being too shy to message her himself.

"Mom. Your phone keeps vibrating." Katherine turned to look at Lucas who was sitting at the counter reading as she made dinner.
"Who is it Luke?"
Lucas looked at the phone, "it's Chris. Are you going to answer him?"
Katherine felt her heart skip a beat, "no. I'll check the messages later, after dinner." She couldn't stop thinking about whatever was waiting for her when she checked her messages later as they ate dinner. She waited until Lucas was in bed for the night, reading before she went to her own room, changing quickly before slipping into bed. She sighed as she clicked the messages.
<Hey. Tara said she talked to you today
I'm sorry if you thought I was being immature, having her gauge how you were feeling
I was nervous about asking you out
I didn't want you to say no
Are you mad?
Please don't be mad
Fuck
Now I feel like I've sent too many messages>Katherine laughed. She never thought he would have been so insecure or shy.
<Not too many messages. I somehow find you charming. Just kind of busy around here during the week. And I'm definitely not mad. But maybe you could actually ask me out yourself>She waited a minute to see if he would respond, making her smile when he did.
Chris blushed. She found him charming. That was good, he thought he was going to have a panic attack waiting for her to respond. He thought he scared her away.
<LOL. Yeah. Maybe I could
*Would* you like it if I asked you out sometime?>She shook her head. <You never know if you don't ask>
Chris laughed at her coyness. It was normally easy for him. Women made it obvious to him that they wanted him. Katherine made him nervous to himself out there. <Well. Maybe I will>
Katherine smirked. <I patiently await your decision> She laid thinking if she was perhaps not being forward enough. She wanted him to be clear about what he wanted if he wanted her to do the same. She had let too many men in before, hurting not only herself, but Lucas. That wasn't something she was looking forward to doing again.
