Katherine held Lucas' hand nervously as she waited for someone to answer Chris's front door. "Tara! Thank god I know someone here."
Tara laughed as Katherine pulled her into a hug. "It'll be fine hon. Don't worry. Just watch out for his siblings, they will hound you on anything and everything."
Katherine groaned, pulling away from Tara as she watched her bend down to hug Lucas. Tara grabbed Lucas's hand, "Come on, Chris is out back."
Katherine nodded, sighing. Nervous. Anxious. She watched Lucas run to Chris when they made it outside. Katherine let out a small moan seeing Chris with no shirt on, showing all his tattoos. She looked up at him as he approached her, smirking. He leaned down to her ear, "are you ogling?" She bit her lip, nodding as he kissed her on the cheek before putting his arm around her shoulder, "come on, let's get this over with." He laughed when he heard her groan. He walked her to a seating area as he introduced her to his mom who hugged her politely and all his siblings. "Sit. I'll get you a drink."
Katherine sighed as she sat down, looking around the table, "okay. Let's have it."
She watched most of them laugh as Chris's brother Scott leaned forward, "how long have you known Chris?"
She shrugged, "about a month. I think I remember you staring at us like zoo animals at the club. You?"
He laughed as he continued, "what do you do for work?"
"I'm an attorney. That's actually how I know Tara."
She leaned back as they all took turns asking her stuff as Chris sat next to her, setting a rum and coke in front of her. She looked at the glass and then back at him, "perfect. You remembered. I'm determined to find a flaw."
Scott scoffed, "yeah. Good luck with that. We've all been waiting for one to present itself."
Chris shook his head, "whatever."
Lisa leaned forward, "so you have a son, where's his dad."
"Mom."
Chris leaned forward to stop his mom, but Katherine grabbed his hand, "it's fine Chris. Lucas's father died when he was a baby." She watched the embarrassed and looks of pity from everyone. "It's fine. It was a long time ago. He knows about his father and he visits his grandparents all the time. They still live in the area. And they have a great relationship."
Lisa smiled, "that's sweet that you let them see Lucas."
Katherine shrugged, "why wouldn't I? They're really great and they love Lucas. And it was nobody's fault what happened to Paul." She shook her head, she never said his name out loud, "his father. We would probably have been married by now anyways. And it's a great way for Lucas to know his father and still keep a part of him in his life." She looked at Chris so he understood, "it's really important to me."
Chris nodded, running his fingers through her hair, "I know."
Lucas came up to them, pulling on Katherine's shirt, "mama. Can I go swimming?"
"Yeah. Of course you can." She grabbed his hand, looking back at Chris, "can you show us somewhere to change?" He nodded, standing up and leading them to a spare bedroom. She helped Lucas get changed. "No running. Okay?" Lucas rolled his eyes, but agreed before leaving her alone in the bedroom. She changed quickly into a galaxy print tankini. When she opened the door, Chris pushed her back in, making her squeal. "Chris. What are you doing?"
His breathing was heavy as he grabbed her waist, "I just wanted two minutes alone with you."
She giggled, "two minutes, is that all you need?"
