"Frecklekit, you better not play with those toads!" Frecklekit padded off, his ears down with embarrassment "I won't!" He cried back as he flinched seeing Spottedkit in front of him.
"What are you doing here? Mother doesn't want me hanging around with you since the rock incident."
Spottedkit blinked, her head to the side. "Ha! As if I'll leave your side." She jumped pretending to pounce on an invisible cat.
Frecklekit rolled his eyes, "just don't follow me!"
She looked up, her eyes full of attention. "Where are you going?" She raced up to him, walking by his side.
"Nowhere!" Frecklekit looked down, his paws shifted uneasily. Spottedkit's fur pricked, annoyed "come on we're like partners in crime!" His eyes widened, looking up at her.He looked away "fine, just be quiet!" He raced off, Spottedkit following from behind. His paws touched the ground softly, as they snuck out of the camp, but from behind Spottedkits pads stamped down every paw step, making Frecklekit look back with an annoyed face.
"Shush, your gonna wake up badgers with your big stumpy paws!" Frecklekit made Spottedkit flinch as if her heart broke in half. He finally realised how he made her feel, his gaze softened as he muzzled her cheek "I'm sorry, I just don't want anyone knowing about this place." He meowed, making Spottedkit purr. Her spirits lifted from Starclan.
"I know! I'm just excited to see this secret!" Her fur fluffed up, as Frecklekit giggled turning around and padding off through the bushes.
As they both walked along on the sticky wet grass, Spottedkit could feel her paws go numb from the cold grass. She looked towards Frecklekit, "how long?" She asked thudding on the ground. Frecklekit looked over to Spottedkit, rolling his eyes he leaned down to her height.
"We're almost there." He smirked, getting back up on his paws and padding off. Spottedkit watched him go, making him die first if someone pounces out. But nothing happened, no scream or yowl. She got up and slowly padded to where he was, she stopped beside him, seeing he was looking down at his reflection.
His eyes were round like moons and worried, she sat beside him nudging him playfully. "What's going on?" She asked, frecklekit slowly looking towards her.
"Nothing really," he mumbled, his paw clawing around in the dirt. Spottedkit sighed, looking at him with a soft gaze, gently nuzzling his cheek.
"Hey if there's anything that's bothering you, you can tell me, right?"She flinched whipping her head around to see a patrol.
"there you kits are!" Fuzzypelt yowled, he raced to spottedkits side muzzling her with love. "I thought I lost you!"
Spottedkit giggled, "why would you lose me, father?" She asked her head tilted to the side with confusion.
"Just-" he paused, his eyes grew weak and soft. "No reason, let's head home." He padded off with rainsweptriver by his side.As they walked inside the camp, spottedkits pads stumbled awhile she walked, she could feel them dragging her down with her body, her ears ringed with waves and oceans that got louder and louder, but Frecklekit's nudge made her face reality again. She turned her face to him, her eyes softening at her new friend.
His paws stumbled on the grass as they both followed the border patrol back to camp, his ears lowered, nose close to hers. "Are you okay, you seem distracted?" He asked.
Spottedkits eyes glimmered and sharpened as she looked up to the trees, the sunshine peeking through like a shadow. She nodded slowly facing him again, "of course, I'm fine, Mouse brain!"
Frecklekit looked at her blinking then turned back to the cats that were taller than them, their shadows gloomed over the two kits making them anxious thinking of what will happen next. As they both padded into the camp, screams and shocks cried over the camp.
Spottedkit halted to a stop, the cat who lead the patrol covered the sighting, as Spottedkit poked her head to the side, she could smell something strong. Her nose wrinkled back making her squeeze her eyes together.
Blood spilling out from a deep wound from a cat, Spottedkits eyes widened. Her surroundings cats raced out and panicked, larksong stood near the walls where their den had been.As her mother's head slowly turned to her, her gaze hardened with disappointment. Her tail flicked signalling her to come over, her paws lead her to the other end of the camp, her gaze darkened with guilt. Her mother hissed, her tail flicking back and forth.
"Where were you!" She hissed, Spottedkit looked up at her mother. Her tail dangled in between her back legs. Emotions swirled inside her stomach making her want to vomit, but her mother lead her to the den.
"What is wrong with you and running off where you're not supposed to be?" She asked in a loud hiss, Spottedkit curled her lip back.
"freckle and i were just playing," spotted mewed meekly, shrinking in on herself as larksong's fur pricked, the queens claws unsheathed.
"Frecklekit's mother died because of you!" She growled, her eyes narrowing. Spottedkit slowly looked down, her mother's gaze sharpened not taking it off her before she could know it. She felt a strong power hit her head making her fall to the ground, blood splattered onto the ground, as Spottedkit struggled to gain her ground back.
Larksong padded over to her side, "don't disobey me!" She hissed walking off as if leaving her to die.
