The ground was wet, and the sun peaked out from the trees that had covered the territory. spottedkit jumped out, her fur pricked looking around the cats getting ready for her apprentice ceremony. her father appeared behind her, his fur bristled along her shoulder. his gaze was warm with pride, he turned down to gaze at spottedkit.

"you ready?" he asked, his ear twitched as he leaned down muzzling his daughter. spottedkit felt his warm breath and smelled it. it smelt like mouse and squirrel from the night before, spottedkit purred muzzling her father back.

"of course, I'm ready!" the young kits paws tingled with excitement, but deep inside she was anxious. her expression changed as she looked at her father. he was gazing at larksong who had been picking prey out from the fresh-kill, her head lifted suddenly looking towards them. spottedkit sighed, her fathers ear narrowed towards his daughter then turned to her.

"don't worry about her, you have more things to worry about!"

"like?" spottedkit asked, frowning.

"you have the training to do!" he purred, nuzzling her again with love.

spottedkit didn't seem confident by her father's words, her wounds still stang from her mother. who'd hurt and attack her for no reason, but her thoughts had been distracted by bluebellstar. the leader had padded up the rock, looking down at the cats.
"let all those cats old enough to catch their prey join beneath the high rock for a clan meeting."

frecklekit raced to past her, the cats swarmed to the clearing. making spottedkit even more anxious than before, her ear twitched nervously and her tail did the same, her father nudged her to go with frecklekit. she padded over to where the high rock was, fur pricked uneased by all the cats gazing at her, she gaze up to the pretty blue-grey cat standing on the high rock. frecklekit beside her was jumping up and down with excitement, but his father had snapped at him to keep still. "we welcome these two 6 moon old cats here, to receive their names."

she continued, then dipped her head for spottedkit to step forward. spottedkit stepped forward, her green eyes glimmered with pride as if her anxiety had disappeared like a wound healing from a big battle. bluebellstar purred looking at her as if she knew exactly what spottedkit felt. "from this day forward until you have earned your warrior name, you'll be known as spottedpaw." spottedpaw dipped her head to the leader, then gazing around at the centre, cats waiting to see who is her mentor. bluebellstar lifted her head looking to yarrowfern, "yarrowfern do you accept the role of being a mentor, and training this young apprentice all you have to teach?"

the light yellowish she-cat stepped forward just to have her shoulder fur bristle against spottedpaw, her head looked up to their leader her eyes ambitious and ready for this challenge. "I do," she purred with pride, then turned her head to spottedpaw. muzzling her head, spottedkit dipped her head to her mentor.
"ill be the best apprentice you've had." spottedpaw whispered, her tail curled underneath her paws showing her anxiety had come back.

"frecklekit," bluebellstar continued turning to the young tom. "for this day forward you'll be known as frecklepaw," Bluebellstar's mew was sounded in the clearing, spottedpaw's chest was out and proud. A voice was sounded in her head, let your mentor muzzle your forehead. Turning to bluebellstar, "frecklepaw, your mentor will be minkstorm!"

The black Tom padded forward, he muzzled his head. Spottedpaw felt proud, being an apprentice already! But a word made her heart crawl back into the darkness, the word your worthless, spottedpaw's head lowered down. Eyes full of pain, her fur fluffed up with unease.

Her father muzzled her, his nose softly touched her forehead. Slowly his breath breathed on her fur, her fur swaying as he breathed. Her father's eyes were round with emotion, tears swelling around his eyes. Spottedpaw seemed so much in the moment, but her paws were trembling, her ears twitched slightly. Her eyes brought her to larksong, her fur was spiky along her spine.

She was glaring at her, her green eyes staring into her fur burning like flames, taking her gaze away she walked past them gracefully sitting with the other queens. Fuzzypelt noticed her tense, sitting beside her licking.

"Your mother just wants attention from us," he meowed, claws unsheathed digging into the dirt. His fur brushing hers, spottedpaw turned to watch her mother. Her fur wasn't pricked anymore, her fur was smooth and her mouth opened and closed as she talked.

"I wonder what frecklepaw is doing," wondering she stood up facing her father, his glare wasn't off her mother.

Fuzzypelt flinched looking at her "Oh okay! Sleep tonight, you'll need it!" Spottedpaw nodded smiling, her ears were still twitching nervously. Why was she like this? As she lowered her paw slowly onto the fern dirt, looking around she saw frecklepaw in the corner making his bed.

Smirking at the sight of her friend, she slowly snuck up on him one paw at a time, when it was the right time she pounced onto him. He fell onto the dirt, coughing. "You scared me!"

Spottedpaw purred nudging him with her nose "we'll be more aware next time, you know your gonna need it in battle!"

Frecklepaw got up, his fur around his chin was pricked so he licked his paw smoothing it down. "I was distracted..." his murmur made spottedpaw anxious and worried for him, she sat beside him their first touching.

"What's wrong?" She asked, her tail whipping around him.

He looked up at her, eyes rounded softened to happiness. "Well, my mother cloudfern." His voice was stern but full of sadness, spottedpaw felt her heart melt for the Tom, he was grieving.

Frecklepaw's fur smoothed giving it a couple of licks, spottedpaw muzzled him trying to comfort him. "She's probably so proud!"

He looked to her, his head Turing slowly eyes clouded. "Really?"

"Of course.."
