"This will be your room."

Binuksan ni Maximus ang pangatlong pinto dito sa second floor. I step inside and look around the room. It looks like a guestroom but a bit customized especially the closet part and a little bit in the interior.

"My room is in the next room and Maxine's in front of mine."

I look at him and our eyes met. Nakasandal siya sa pintuan at nakahalukipkip habang pinapanood ako. He's staring at me with those cold eyes. Ngunit hindi tulad noon na kinatatakutan ko 'yon. Dahil ngayon alam kong kabaligtaran non ang nasa loob niya. He's warm. Like a shelter from the storm. Like a shield from the blizzard.

"Or you could just stay in my room."

"Alright. Leave your luggage inside and let the helper arrange that. Lunch is ready."

"Huwag na. I can arrange those after lunch."

"Maxine will probably pull you into her room to play after lunch, so let the helper fix your clothes."

"It's alright, I have all the time when Maxine takes her afternoon nap."

He suddenly scoffed. Natigilan ako doon at napatingin sa kaniya. I stop walking to look at him since he's behind me. Nagtaka ako dahil lukot na lukot ang mukha niya. Kumunot na din tuloy ang noo ko.

"Why are you frowning?"

"What about me?"

Napamaang ako. "Huh?"

"When will you give me your time then?"

Ilang beses akong kumurap sa pag-aakalang mali lang ako ng dinig. But his expression didn't change. Mukha pa rin siyang batang deprived ng atensyon!

"A-Are you asking me to give you my time...?"

I look at him in disbelief but blushing at the same time. Para akong teenager na biglang pinakitaan ng motibo ng crush niya!

Impatience registered in his face when it took me longer to reply to him. Mas lalong nalukot ang mukha niya.

"Akin ka mamaya. No more buts." Mariing sinabi niya bago sinakop ang kamay ko at hinila ako papuntang dining room.

The dining was silent when we had our lunch. Mukhang pagod si Maxine sa naging biyahe namin kaya tahimik lang siya sa tabi ko. Kaya naman hindi na ako nagulat ng niyakap niya ako matapos namin kumain.

"Mama, I'm sleepy..."

She claims my whole upper body like how a koala hugs a tree branch. Sumilay ang ngiti sa labi ko at niyakap siya pabalik. One of my hands flew to her hair and slowly stroked it to make her sleep, while the other is lightly tapping her leg. Dahan dahan akong umupo sa sofa habang ginagawa iyon. And when I did, I searched for a comfortable position and lay there until Maxine fell asleep in my arm. Mabigat siya but I like the feeling of her arms and legs around me. And she looks really comfortable.

Biglang sumulpot si Maximus sa entrada ng living room kung nasaan kami.

"She fell asleep?"

"Yup." Ngumiti ako.
