When they had finally reached the compound, Pietro was still unconscious, while Wanda was fully awake and alert.

"Hey guys, were here! Tony shouted from the cockpit.

Natasha decided that the twins needed immediate medical attention, so as soon as they hit the ground, she took charge of accompanying Wanda with Dr. Cho along with Steve, while Clint would take care of little Pietro who was not suspected to wake up for a little while.

When they came down, Wanda grabbed Natasha's hand and Clint carried Pietro in his arms but had to take him to another area of the medical wing to give him emergency medical attention. Wanda wasnt very convinced, but still she still followed Natasha obediently to the medical bay, taking one last look at her unconscious brother in Clints arms.

Clint had promised Wanda he would take care of him, and they continued their journey to Dr. Chos lab.

However, before entering, Wanda stopped abruptly and squeezed Natasha's hand a little tighter. Natasha bent down to the small girls level, taking both of her hands into her own.

"What's up, milaya?" She asked, gently taking the girl's chin to raise her head and make her look into her eyes. Natashas heart broke when she realized the childs eyes were glassy distant. She had traces of tears on her cheeks, Natasha noticed, and after the girl calmed down a bit, she took her hand to gently pull her into the lab.

But Wanda wouldnt move.

Do I have to go? She asked, her voice cracking slightly.

Natasha was about to answer, but Dr. Cho had appeared and taken over.

She smiled, her face showing a calm expression, as she had already been warned that the two Maximoff children required medical support.

Hi Wanda, I'm Dr. Cho. Im going to try to heal some of your injuries, is that alright?"

Wanda looked at her for a moment before nodding shyly.

"Well, let me tell you a little secret," Dr. Cho continued, observing the skittish girl, I am very good at healing wounds, and I hope you can trust me to help you."

Wanda was genuinely surprised with the last thing she said, for she was imagining all the things she and her brother had went through in Struckers lab, at the hands of people who had also called themselves doctors.

But there was something different about Doctor Cho, although she couldnt place her finger on it. The woman seemed to have good intentions, so she replied with a delicate nod of her head.

Natasha smiled at the girl's action, and they continued moving forward. They reached a very spacious room where in the center was a double-size bed. Next to the bed was a small table with several drawers, large windows that gave views of the streets of New York, a fully equipped bathroom, two small cabinets but filled with a wide variety of medicines, gadgets, among other things, and finally, which was Wandas favourite part, a colour painting of a brown horse, running in a large pasture with mountains in the background.

Natasha left Wanda sitting on the bed so she could talk with Helen, who seemed to be just as concerned as Nat.

"I need you to explain to me where the hell this girl came from. She doesn't look good, Natasha. She is very malnourished, pale and seems terrified of absolutely everything in here, despite the fact that nothing could hurt her, Helen stated with a clearly worried voice.

Natasha crossed her arms.

"Well, to summarize the story for you, we only know that she and her brother were part of Strucker's experiments and now they both have powers." She sighed and continued, "We don't know what monstrous things the kids have had happened to them, but when we took them out of the base, they were hidden among corpses.

Is that why she smells strange? Cho asked.

Nat nodded.

I have also noticed some wounds that probably needed stitches. Besides that, her brother told us that they are seven years old but I'm not very sure about that."

Nat looked up to meet Dr. Chos face, which was amused. Nat attempted to ignore it.

And I know from the expression you have on your face, you think I softened. I havent, but it's terrifying to see two seven-year-olds in conditions like these. Not to mention that the experiments were probably just as painful as the ones in the Red Room." Natasha whispered, once again lowering her head.

Helen was perplexed; it was very rare that Natasha would voluntarily talk about her past, but she immediately remembered Steve and Clint telling her that when she was overwhelmed, she could talk to someone she trusted.

"Well, Dr. Cho answered, I think we could start by giving her a bath and then treating some of her most serious injuries to avoid overwhelming the girl."

Natasha nodded, looking at Wanda, who was only staring at the frame with the painting of the horse above the bed.

Helen went to join the girl, but Natasha took her by the arm and smiled sadly, silently thanking her for listening to her. Cho returned the smile as reply.

Natasha sighed, ran a hand through her hair, and closed the bedroom door behind her. Turning around, she observed Wanda with a smile. She was still hypnotised by the painting.

After a few more moments of observation, Natasha decided to break the silence.

"Wanda, Dr. Cho said that you should take a bath to clean the remains of the battle, how would you like that?"

The girl looked at her for a few seconds, blinking before answering.

"Okay. She said quietly.

Nat nodded, reaching for the doorknob.

"I'm going to call a friend to ask for clothes and shoes, okay Wanda? " Natasha asked. When a few seconds passed with still no answer, she continued to coax.

"Maybe I could even ask my friend for a surprise? Toys or books?

Wanda's eyes widened at the mention of the presents. Nat was surprised—she had thought the girl would lighten up at the request, but instead it seemed to stress her out even more than she already was.

"No, no no no no, She repeated. You don't have to worry, thats not needed! The girl pleaded nervously.

Natashas expression softened.

Don't worry, little witch. Let me take care of you.

Wanda nodded.

Natasha sighed once more, excusing herself out of the room. She sighed, taking out her cell phone out of her pocket to call Laura. She would definitely need her help.
