Angelica's POV |

While updating the shop's website in the backroom, vinnie lightly knocked on the door.

"come in," I looked up from the computer screen.

He opened the door but didn't fully come in. Instead, he leaned his body on the door frame.

"Hey Ang. So I was thinking," He tapped the side of the door frame.

"What's up?" I put my full attention on him.

"My parents sort of want to properly meet you and they thought it would be perfect to schedule it this weekend. Is that okay?"

"Of course!"

"Great" He smiled, knocked on the door frame one last time before closing the door and leaving.

That weekend came. I met vinnie and at his apartment and he drove us to the restaurant. The whole time I was nervous with my guts sinking to my ass.

We arrived, then met his parents inside. They both smiled at me and I returned a smile, but behind that mask was fear.

What if they don't like me? A lot of people judge me already for my tattoos.

It's also hard being a black girl and dating someone of another race. It's hard not to assume that they think the worst of me or have their stereotypes.

Vinnie let me sit first, then he sat down.

We all greeted each other and had a fair conversation. This is the first time I've ever met my boyfriend's parents officially. Don't fuck this up, Angelica.

"So, what's your meaning behind your tattoos?" Mr.Hacker smiled, putting his menu slightly down.

"Oh, I-" I looked at vinnie before answering.

"The snake is a part of healing, and the rest are stories of my life."

I felt bad about telling a white lie, but that was yet to come.

"We have so many questions because we're very excited." Mrs. hacker brought out a tiny notebook with written notes in it.

"This is a bit embarrassing, mom." Bonnie rolled his eyes, huffing.

Do you have siblings? "Where are you from? When can we meet your parents?" her eyes searched her notebook. Instantly Vinnie's eyes flashed at me, then at his mom.

"No siblings, I'm originally from Virginia, My childhood was...different, and my parents are now deceased." I cleared my throat, and put my menu up, trying to distract the discomfort in my heart.

The table became silent and everyone's eyes were wide. Mrs. Hacker dropped her menu and covered her mouth.

"Oh love, I apologize for bringing that up. I-" she began stammering over her words but I didn't want her to feel guilty.

"It's fine. but uhm, anywho-" I tried to leave the conversation behind. As the waitress was taking our order, I felt Vinnie's handhold mine under the table. I glanced at him, but he had a weak smile.

"Have you ever dyed your hair?" Mr.Hacker took the last bite of his steak.

"Yes. I dyed it red at some point but cut it all off."

"Last question. Do you see a future with our son?" Mrs.Hacker took my hand and placed hers on top of mine, staring into my eyes with a serious face.

"Of course," I nodded, smiling.

But I wanted to say more. I wanted to explain the feelings Vinnie's made me feel. I wanted to explain how I was now ready to love him. I wanted to explain how he's made me feel like I can trust again.
