TW: mention of abuse.
Hope you enjoy 😁
Frida woke as a wet rag was being pressed against her forehead. She opened her eyes to find the healer looking beyond her and talking to someone.
"I just... It is complicated. My feelings are all over the place. I want to be with her, romantically. But I also really can't be with her. Grimmel would kill us." It was Freya who was speaking.
Frida felt her heartbeat speed up. She wanted to be with her... Romantically?!
"It is complicated, yes, but if you believe that you two are meant for each other and that you are willing to do anything for her, then I believe you should try," the healer responded. "I had a love interest that was a woman as well. The bravest and most beautiful woman I ever had the pleasure of meeting," the healer said in a dreamy voice.
"What happened?" Freya asked.
Frida could see a frown take over the healer's face.
"She told me she didn't feel the same way, and never spoke to me again. The moment I confessed she just ran away, never really giving me a real answer. But it hurt nonetheless," the healer said.
"I did that," Freya said. "What should I say. I can't just go over and say 'hey sorry, I didn't mean to run away, you just startled me with all of the confessing stuff and I got overwhelmed. I have been trying to avoid you because I found the thought of us being together was scary but now that you confessed I want to try. Please forgive me,'... I don't think that will work."
"I think it will work perfectly," Frida said as she turned her head to Freya.
Freya sucked in a sharp breath and her cheeks grew red.
"Did you hear, everything?" Freya asked, not making eye contact with Frida.
"I heard from you saying your feelings are complicated up til now," Frida said. She smiled at Freya who would still not look at her.
"I am sorry for running away. I really am. I meant what I said, while I thought you were unconscious. You just... It came out of nowhere; I wasn't prepared. I-I-I do want to have a relationship with you but I am terrified of what Grimmel will do. Not just to me but to you as well. Are you really ready to..."
Frida had mustered enough strength to push herself up on her arms and press a soft kiss to Freya's lips. The kiss made her arms feel weak and she was barely able to keep herself up.
When they pulled away, Freya put her hands on Frida's cheek and leaned their foreheads together.
"Freya, I am going to have to lay down, my arms are barely able to keep me up," Frida whispered.
"Oh! Sorry," Freya exclaimed and helped her lay back down.
"I am sorry to interrupt this beautiful interaction but I need to see your back, Frida. It was very bad when you came here," the healer said. Frida had honestly forgotten she was here.
"Ok," she said and carefully turned onto her stomach. She could feel the covers being pulled off the top half of her body and then the healer's careful fingers unraveling the bandage on her lower back.
A loud gasp escaped Freya as the bandage was removed completely. She took Frida's hand and squeezed it.
"How did that happen?" Freya asked.
"Grimmel. He realized that I wasn't that responsive to the belt so he decided to burn a mark into my back. Apparently because someone he has business with and he wanted to show his loyalty by marking me. Dragon shit really." Frida received a light smack in the head.
"Language," the healer said. It was quiet for a long time before the healer spoke again. "You will need to stay here for two more days. Not a day less."
Frida cringed at that. Grimmel wouldn't be happy with her staying away for so long.
"How long have I been out by the way?" Frida asked.
"A whole night and it is now midday. So a fair amount of time," the healer said as she began to clean the burnt wound again and bandage it.
Frida felt a hand in her hair and she smiled. She turned her head to look at Freya who was massaging her scalp with her fingers.
"Is my mother ok?" Frida asked suddenly.
"She hasn't come to visit, only Grimmel did. That man really has the guts to come here after what he did. He should be glad he didn't meet the Gods' judgment sooner. I told him you came here by yourself, I just hope he believes me," the healer said.
Frida nodded. She understood why her mother didn't come. Grimmel would beat her blue if she came home late or defied his orders.
"You seem to be healing relatively fast, but it will scar," the healer said and covered her with the blanket. "Freya, you take care of her, don't let her do anything stupid and not too much kissing, ok?" Freya and Frida nodded.
The healer left the hut, and neither one of the girls bothered to ask where she was going. The healer was... Strange.
Frida moved to lay on her back with Freya's help. Once she was laying comfortably she looked at Freya.
"You actually want to give this a try?" She asked.
Freya seemed to ponder the question. Then she smiled. "I do," she said with confidence.
Frida smiled brightly at her and patted the spot on the bed next to her. "Lay with me?"
Freya snorted. "You realize that sounds bad right?" She said.
Frida shrugged and patted the spot on the bed again. Freya rolled her eyes and laid down beside her. She was stiff as a log and her arms were on either side of her body, barely making contact with Frida.
"When I said 'lay with me' I meant I want to cuddle," Frida said.
Freya carefully moved to her side and looked at Frida with a curious look. Frida patted her chest and Freya moved her head to rest there.
"See?" Frida said and wrapped an arm around Freya. "Not so bad." Freya hummed and placed a hand on Frida's abdomen.
Frida kissed Freya's head and felt her smile into her chest.
This was perfect.
