Chapter 26 || "I'm not telling you everything..."

Soda walked along the grave yards picket fence line, carrying a bouquet or daisies. He had a mourning look plastered across his movie star face. Tears rolled down his cheeks, staining them.

He reached the entrance to the cemetery, inhaling deeply before pushing the gate open. Soda stalked through slowly, taking in every head stone he saw. As he approached the end of the cemetery, he stopped, staring down at a head stone.

"Hi Elizabeth..." Soda sniffed, laying down the flowers on her grave. "I miss you, baby. I still wish that I could've been there. I could've saved you." He sighed heavily and started again. "I can't believe you were pregnant. I just found out from Doctor Burke. I just don't understand why you never told me. You were two months along, I mean..."

Sodapop started crying. "I'm not telling you everything..." He heaved. "Sandy and I... We got back together. She was there to comfort me when no one else was. Darry has been working overtime lately and Ponyboy... Ponyboy really misses you. He wanted to be an uncle so bad. Maybe he'll get a chance with Sandy! Oh, who am I kidding? I can't handle this 'fatherhood' shit. I miss you, and I know you're probably pissed at me for moving on. I'm part with you and part with her. I'm so bipolar about this..."

Soda started to walk away from Elizabeth's grave when he turned back around. "Elizabeth... I love you. All of us love you. Pony was talking last night about how much you loved Paul Newman, the two of ya. How you bonded over him." He ruffled his hair a little bit. "This morning he ran off. Something about seeing a Paul Newman movie?"

He turned and walked back to Steve's car quickly, wiping a tear from his eye. As he slipped into the passenger side, Steve pat him on the shoulder.
"Soda, buddy. You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." He grinned at Steve. Steve turned on the ignition. "Let's go pick up Two-bit so we could maybe give Pony a ride home after the movie."
Steve groaned and took off down the road.

Soda and Elizabeth never got their fairy tale wedding, children or perfect home. I guess you could say that their relationship went up in flames.

Oh, and what was said about Ponyboy going to the movies... I think you all know what's coming next...
