Chapter Three
Kasey walked down the hall and pulled open the receptionist doors.
"Hey baby." her mother said as she turned to face her. "What's wrong?" she asked as she took a look at
Kasey's face.
"We have a problem upstairs." she said as she dug through the information on her desk, looking for the number to trauma team.
"Oh, sweetie. I am sorry." he mother said understanding she couldn't discuss it.
"Hello, this is Kasey Jackson from the BHW, do you have a trauma unit available now?"
"I have a rape victim. I would rather walk her down, she is distressed."
"Do you recommend that?" she asked.
"I will let him know. Thank you."
She hung up the phone and wiped her eyes.
"Sweetheart, what can I do to help?" her mother asked.
"Pray." she said with a gentle smile.
"Dear Lord,
We come before you asking you to be with this sweet patient. This innocent girl didn't do anything to deserve this and here she is facing a horrible road ahead. Please guide her, please shower her with love and please draw her close to you. In your name Amen." Rose prayed.
"Thank you momma."
"Any time dear. Could you send Bryten this way when he gets some free time?"
"Yes ma'am."
Kasey walked back into Bryten's office and gave him a soft smile when she saw Tinsley holding onto him.
She nodded and Bryten helped Tinsely set up. "Honey, we need to take you to the emergency area downstairs and have you checked out. Do you think you can do that?" he asked gently.
She hesitated.
"It's ok to be scared." he assured her.
"W-what will they do?" she asked.
He hesitated. "They will check you out and..."
"Will I have to tell them what happened?"
"Them no, but you will have to tell me and the police." he said softly.
Her lip trembled and Bryten hugged her. "I know it's scary Tinsley."
"I'm embarrassed." she admitted, breaking Bryten's heart.
"Honey, I know it's embarrassing, but I promise you you did nothing to be embarrassed of. You were taken advantage of by someone much older and powerful than you." he said as he reached over and grabbed another tissue for her.
"What if they don't believe me?"
"They will sweetheart."
"Will they m-make me go to court?" she asked.
Bryten shook his head."You will not have to testify in court. They may ask to speak with you, but youthey can use the video tape from the office."
"So he won't see me?" she asked in terror.
"Who won't see you?" Bryten asked.
"Roy Dexter"
"Did he do this?"
"Y-yes."
"No sweetie." Kasey said as she hugged her once more.
"What if they don't believe me and they call my mom. What if she doesn't believe me and I.." Bryten took her hand to silence her.
