The Forgotten

. . .

"How on earth did you manage to get out of doing service electives?" Lucas groaned, throwing himself over Farkle's bed. "It's completely unfair."

"To be fair," Farkle paused the game he was playing, "Don't you have a job AJ?"

"Precisely my rich friend," the brown-haired boy spoke. "And legally, it's considered volunteering since I get paid under the table. However, I'll still be participating."

"Why?" the Texan questioned, lifting up his head. "You got out, just to do it anyway?"

AJ shrugged, "Mr. Matthews said he'd give me extra credit if I do it."

"You don't even need extra credit." Farkle responded, "You already have an A in the class."

"Wait, you have an A?"

The blue-eyed boy simply nodded. "Yeah, the only thing I would've gotten a bad grade on was that paper the first week we were there- but as you know, Mr. Matthews let that one slide because of Maya."

"How does Farkle know that? Wait, why didn't you tell me?" Lucas was now fully sat up, staring at his best friend.

"It's not that big of a deal," the shorter boy waved off, "And honestly, I have no clue how Farkle knows."

"I know everything," the boy genius stated, "I'm always aware of competition. I know everything about everyone."

"Everything?" AJ asked, "You read my file?"

The scrawny boy hesitated.

"Farkle! That's personal information!"

"To be fair, I didn't mean to!" the genius blurted out, "I read Lucas' too!"

"You what?!" the Texan shouted, "Why would you do that?!"

"I read everybody's!"

"Oh yeah, like that makes it so much better." AJ bitterly laughed.

"I'm sorry, okay?" Farkle raised his hands up in defense. "What can I do to make it up to you?"

The boys looked at each other, having a silent conversation, before turning back to the genius.

"10 bucks."

Lucas glared at the other boy, "We'll settle for ice cream."

Farkle chuckled, "Deal."

. . .

"Who here knows about the Great Depression?" Matthews questioned the class.

Riley tilted her head, "I thought it was called the Grand Canyon?"

"Excellent." the teacher spoke, "Who here knows about the Great Depression? Maya?"
