World

. . .

AJ Toriello fought back a yawn as he slumped down into the first empty seat he saw upon entering the subway cart. His eyes felt heavy, but he couldn't afford to take a nap. There's no way that he'd chance missing his stop and be late to school- he doesn't really feel like getting an earful from his parole officer.

He had spent all night trying to comfort his baby brother, who had seemingly come down with a cold. Eli, his brother, was all snotty and congested so it was understandably hard to breathe which caused him to cry all night - which obviously didn't help the breathing problem. He finally knocked out around 3 am, once the meds kicked in. In other words, AJ only got about three hours of sleep before having to get up and cook breakfast for the family. What fun.

"Hi, I'm Maya. You're really cute." a cheerful voice startled the brown-haired boy, pulling him out of his sleepy state. It took him a minute to pinpoint where the sound was coming from (AJ blamed the delay on his grogginess), only to realize that it came from the petite blonde standing in front of him... except he wasn't who she was talking to. Instead, the blonde directed the statement to the boy sitting next to him, before ultimately wiggling her way between the two.

"We should hangout sometime. You make me happy. You don't pay enough attention to me. This isn't working out." the blonde announced to the sandy-haired boy, getting right back out of her seat. "It's you, not me. We can still be friends. Not really."

With that, she walked back to a taller brunette girl just out of earshot from where AJ and the other boy sat, but not without glancing over at AJ and winking.

Oi, It's too early for this.

"Is that like, a normal New York thing?" the sandy-haired boy asked him, a slight southern twang in his voice.

"Honestly- yeah."

The boy laughed, "I'm Lucas."

"AJ"

Next thing either of them knew, they heard a slight scream then a brunette (the blonde girl's friend) fell back onto Lucas' lap- nearly hitting AJ in the face with her backpack.

"Hi... we were just talking about you." the brunette awkwardly greeted, "You used to go out with my friend Maya."

"I'm Lucas." the southern boy tensely smiled. It was easy to tell that he was a bit uncomfortable.

"I love it." the brunette smiled back, almost creepily in AJ's opinion.

Once again, AJ was pushed to the side as the brunette sat between him and Lucas, though it didn't last long as an older woman stopped in front of them, "Perhaps someone would like to give their seat to someone older?"
