S1:E7
Maya's Mother
. . .
"Okay, so you and Riley got invited to some dumb party which turned out to be a geek party hosted by Farkle- then she drastically changed her aesthetic to become a Harajuku girl and signed up for the spelling bee competition where Maya convinced her that she is, in fact, not a nerd because Riley couldn't even spell Harajuku?"
"Yup." AJ spoke lazily, barely looking up from his phone.
"Wow, I really did miss a lot."
The shorter boy glanced at Lucas with a teasing smirk, "That's what happens which you ditch school for a week to visit cows."
"First off, I didn't 'ditch' school. I still had to do all my work. Secondly, I wasn't in Texas visiting cows and you know that."
AJ shrugged, "Hey, I don't know what you people do down there. Personally, I would rather visit animals than people."
"Yeah, yeah." The southerner rolled his eyes, "Oh by the way, my momma's coming for career day tomorrow and she wants to meet you."
"Me?" The blue-eyed boy pointed to himself, "Why?"
"Well, you know... I've talked about you here and there and well; my momma likes to know my friends."
"Ooh, you talk about me to your momma?" AJ teased, "How sweet."
"Oh hush," Lucas playfully glared, "Anyways, who're you bringing for career day?"
"Hmm? Oh, I don't have anyone."
The Texan sat up a little higher in his seat, "Why not? What about your mom?"
"She's.... busy." AJ shrugged, not looking his friend in the eyes.
"I'm sorry."
The shorter boy clenched his jaw a bit, "It's whatever. Now, let's get to class."
. . .
Art was one of AJ's least hated subjects at this school.
It wasn't as boring as math or science, nor was it as exhausting as history was becoming. Plus, it was one of his few classes that didn't give out homework.
Art also gave him full reign to do just about anything he pleased. He could completely zone out and draw whatever he liked, and his teacher would always find the positives in his work- even if he outright ignored the prompt.
For example, right now the class is supposed to be drawing a bowl of fruit. Ms. Kossal, their teacher, had even set out a reference for them on a stool in the middle of the room. Is that what AJ is doing? No.
