Crazy Hat

. . .

"In 1831, Belgium-"

"No!" Riley cut off her teacher, throwing everyone off guard. AJ internally groaned, already knowing this was going to be a whole thing.

While the boy has grown to like the smiley girl, or tolerate her better at least, he does still resent that everything seems to revolve around her. It's like she doesn't even notice it either. Main character disorder at its finest.

"Riley?"

"What's my thing?"

"What's your thing?" Matthews repeated the ridiculous question.

"What am I going to be, Dad? Am I going to be okay?"

"Riley, listen to me very carefully." The teacher leaned closer to his daughter.

The girl nodded, "Ok."

"In 1831, Belgium declared its independence from the Netherlands."

"What will people think of me if I end up living in a subway?"

"They'll probably think you adopted four teenage mutant turtles." AJ thew out, causing Maya to glare at him.

The blonde then turned towards their teacher, "What if nothing happens for her, sir? Riley can't end up like that! She's my meal ticket!"

"What the- I just saw you girls at breakfast!"

Farkle pounded his fists on his desk, saying something in a foreign language.

"Calm down, Farkle. You're speaking in Dutch again."

"Oh really?" the scrawny boy smacked himself before saying something in a different language.

Matthews cut him off, "No, no, no. You slapped yourself way too hard. You went all the way to Spanish."

He smacked himself again, "My education should not be based on your daughter's moods."

AJ nodded in agreement. While he didn't necessarily care what he learned, it was a tad annoying that most, if not all, of their lessons were based on Riley.

"Neither should mine, but it is!" The teacher exclaimed, "Guys, a daughter asks her father, 'What's my thing?'. This question will resonate in the hearts of all parents from the moment it's asked, until the day their child feels comfortable in the world. Pretty soon you're all going to join the work force. What's your thing? What do you aspire to? How will you affect people? That's the only history that matters."

"Thank you, Daddy." Riley smiled, Farkle quietly echoing her in a mocking tone.

"Alright guys, tell you what. Let's split the class into two separate businesses and see how you do for yourselves. We'll see if anyone's got anything to worry about, okay?"
